So this is it. This coming week is our last week as Hotchkiss ObGyn. We are full of so many mixed emotions. We'll love not having to set the alarm, not dealing with traffic on 495 and RT 5, not being woken up in the middle of the night, planning vacations whenever not when no one is due, and definitely not dealing with insurance companies. But, we will miss all of you! We'll miss our pregnant bellies and seeing those precious babies when 9 months is done. We'll miss sharing your lives with you, the good and the not-so-good. We'll miss making a difference in your lives by caring about each and every one of you.
Our lives as Hotchkiss ObGyn will always be very special memories to us.
Thank you to everyone who has come in to say thank you and goodbye. Your kind words mean the world to us.
We promise to keep this page going so we can all stay in touch.
Much love,
Dr. H and Judy

Thank you for all the birthday wishes. You all made my day extra special.

Happy Birthday to our very own stork. Thanks for everything you’ve done for the women of Hotchkiss ObGyn.

Our prayers have been answered. Our newest Mom is up, walking around and nursing her baby this morning.

Asking for prayers for one of our mommies this morning. Baby is fine, but mommy had a rough time. She'll need time to recover, but will be ok. We all know the power of Hotchkiss ObGyn Family prayers.

MICHAEL H HOTCHKISS MD PA

Dear Members of the Hotchkiss ObGyn Family

I am composing this letter with a blend of emotions.

In July 1979 Judy and I embarked on a journey. We opened Michael H. Hotchkiss, MD, PA. with the same joy and enthusiasm as welcoming a newborn. For the past 45 years, we have nourished and cherished our unique creation.

The time has now arrived to conclude this chapter of our journey

The office will close on February 28, 2025.

You, our patients, have become an integral part of our extended family. We have celebrated your happy times and supported you through challenging times, just as you have done for us. Over 45 remarkable years it has been our esteemed privilege to be your ob-gyn doctor and nurse, delivering medical care in a manner we firmly believe to be optimal.

Regrettably, due to transformations in the insurance sector and the introduction of new medical protocols, I am no longer able to continue practicing medicine in a manner that aligns with my convictions regarding the best interests of my patients.

It is so difficult to say goodbye. We will sincerely miss each and every one of you.

Dr. H and Judy

(GD) can arise during pregnancy because higher levels of pregnancy hormones can interfere with insulin. Usually the body can make more insulin during pregnancy to keep blood sugar normal. But sometimes the body can’t make enough insulin during pregnancy, and blood sugar levels go up. This leads to GD. Congratulations to my brother on his retirement from his Southern Maryland podiatric practice.
As for me, I’m not ready for that stage of life. Taking care of my patients and bringing new lives into this world is still my happy place. I’ll continue to keep practicing medicine and doing what I love for as long as I can.
As many of you already know, I’ve got that Guinness Record to achieve.
Come visit us in the office

TIME TO PUT THE RUMORS TO REST AGAIN
#1 Dr. H is NOT retiring anytime soon.
His actual goal is to be in the Guinness Book of Records for
being the oldest obstetrician still delivering babies.
#2 The Labor and Delivery Unit at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital is NOT closing. It's up and running and will continue to be for a very long time.
Here's the background information from YOUR DOCTOR, not from the rumor mill.
There's a national nursing shortage and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital's Labor and Delivery Unit did not escape this dilemma. The entire hospital administration is working diligently to address and correct this nationwide issue. New nursing administrators have been brought in and many new nurses have been hired. It seems that the nursing profession has adopted the concept of Travelling Nurses and MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital will utilize these nurses to keep our unit well staffed.

If you're currently pregnant or have recently had a baby with Dr. H, you know he begins each ob visit with "How is OUR baby doing?"
That is truly how he feels. He takes ownership of the unborn child you have entrusted him to watch over and bring into this world. He lives by his motto; OUR GOAL IS A HEALTHY MOTHER AND A SAFE DELIVERY OF A HEALTHY BABY.
He is fully confident that MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Labor and Delivery Unit plays a very important role in helping him to achieve this goal.
He wouldn't take you anywhere to delivery your baby that he didn't believe had his patients' and their babies' health and safety as their top priority.
He is confident that he can continue to give you the stellar ob care that you and your unborn baby deserve and that he can continue this stellar care when he meets you at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital to deliver your baby.

Please feel free to ask Dr. H or Nurse Judy any questions or to address any issues/rumors you have heard floating around the Southern Maryland community. We promise to be honest with you and hopefully reassure you that you are in safe hands.

The “Waldorf Stork”

Dr. Michael Hotchkiss has been practicing ob gyn medicine in Southern Maryland since 1977. He has delivered close to 10,000 babies during that time. He actually calls the Delivery Room his happy place. Dr. Hotchkiss and his wife, Judy Hotchkiss, RN, BSN, an ob gyn nurse for 43 years, have always worked together. They refer to their practice as their Hotchkiss ObGyn family and that’s how patients are treated, like members of their family.
