Dr. McGill is considered one of the leading authorities on spinal mechanics and back pain. This is an interesting, short video on how sleeping ergonomics can accept spine health and back pain. Personally, I have slept on the floor (like the Japanese lol) for a number of years and it has been good for me. Dr. McGill talks a bit about how this may or may not be good for different body types. You might want to give this is a listen if you feel that your sleeping surface affects your back pain. This video also mentions how the spine/discs swell (becomes hydrophilic) as we are lying down; this points to the fact that we should get our butts moving after we sleep and get to work lol!! Personally, I think it's best to walk/run and move lightly in the mornings and do heavier lifting/harder work later on in the day.
