ATTN: Golfers!

Who would've thought the golf season would have extended this far into the winter? Typically this is the time for us to get our bodies right and ready for the next season. But with the weather as nice as it's been, it seems as if last year's season is going to flow directly into next.

At PHC, we use a variety of exercises in addition to myofascial release and mobilization techniques to help you improve your ROM and flexibility, and increase that back swing and ball speed!

Curious to how we can help? Don't hesitate and book your appointment today!

Shoulder injuries are rather complex.

Rotator cuff injuries are the leading cause of shoulder pain and disability. The rotator cuff acts to stabilize the shoulder joint through various ranges of motion. Common causes of rotator cuff injuries include excessive wear and tear from overhead activities, falling on an outstretched hand, or a pushing/pulling movement.

Symptoms of rotator cuff injuries include pain or stiffness with overhead activity, pain at night while sleeping, and weakness or inability to move the arm.

Spinal stenosis occurs typically in patients over the age of 50 as a result of the degenerative and arthritic changes that occur as we age. These changes tend to reduce the amount of space the spinal cord has to comfortably travel through, resulting in symptoms such as numbness, tingling, or weakness in the legs.

At Performance Health of Ocean, we perform thorough examinations including various orthopedic and neurological screens in order to get a better picture of your condition. Imaging, including x-rays, MRI, and CT, may be utilized to provide further information.

Intervertebral discs refer to the soft, cushion-like structures that are between each of the bones in your neck and back called vertebrae. Discs work to protect your spine from compressional and torsional forces that occur during normal daily activities, including lifting, bending and twisting.

Certain activities that commonly cause herniation are improper lifting of weights, abnormal twisting/bending, or car accidents. Herniations can also be the result of abnormal wear and tear of the spine resulting in joint and disc degeneration.

Pain is the most common symptom of disc herniation; and can be more intense during certain movements, or when you sneeze, cough or go to the bathroom. In some cases, this pain can radiate into the arms or legs, and may even cause weakness.

If you, or someone you know, are dealing with back or neck pain that could be the result of a disc herniation, we are here to help!

Often times these headaches occur in the temple region, but can also refer behind the skull, to the jaw or behind the ear!
