Is Your E-Bike a Fire Risk? Let’s Talk Battery Safety. 🔋🔥

As more of our neighbors switch to e-bikes and scooters, our Fire Prevention Bureau wants to make sure everyone is "charging smart." Lithium-ion batteries are generally safe, but when they malfunction, they produce intense fires that are incredibly difficult to extinguish.

Protect your family and your home by following these essential tips:

✅ Use the Right Gear: Only use the battery and charger provided by the manufacturer. Using mismatched power cords can lead to overheating and "thermal runaway."

✅ Location Matters: Charge your device on a flat, non-combustible surface. Avoid charging on laundry, furniture, or rugs. A garage or a tiled area is always your best bet.

✅ Keep Watch: Never leave your battery charging overnight while you sleep or when you aren't home.

✅ Cool Down: Let your battery cool after a long ride before plugging it in.

Let's keep our community safe. Please Share this post with your friends and family to spread the word!

Celebrating Autism Acceptance Month: Safety for Every Spectrum ♾️🚒

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and the Wall Township Fire Bureau is committed to ensuring that our fire safety outreach reaches every member of our community.

For many individuals on the autism spectrum, emergency situations present unique challenges—from sensory sensitivities to loud sirens to the unpredictability of a fire drill. We want to help you bridge that gap.

How to prepare your neurodivergent household:

Practice "Safety Drill Saturdays": Consistency is key. Make escaping the house a routine part of your weekend so it becomes muscle memory.

The "Go-Bag" Check: Ensure any "Go-Bags" include comfort items or noise-canceling headphones to help manage the transition once outside.

Visit the Station: We’d love to meet you! Familiarizing your loved one with the look of a firefighter in full gear (masks and all) can reduce "stranger danger" during a real emergency.

From the members and staff of the Wall Township Fire Bureau, a very Happy Easter to all.

🚨 ANNOUNCEMENT: The Wall Township Fire Bureau is proud to pilot the new iSmell Safety Protocol.

Starting today, if our sensors detect high heat or smoke levels in your neighborhood, your Facebook app will automatically activate your phone’s internal cooling fans and emit a high-frequency ‘Extinguishing Tone.’

ACTION REQUIRED: To calibrate your sensor, please place your nose 1 inch from your screen and take a deep breath. Do you smell the 'Safety Pine'? If not, you may need to update your app. Stay safe, Wall Township!"

🚨 Don't Pack a Hazard on Your Family Getaway! 🚨

Planning your Spring Break adventure? Whether you’re booking a luxury hotel or a cozy Airbnb, the Wall Township Fire Prevention Bureau wants to remind you: Your safety check begins the moment you check in. Working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are your first line of defense!

When You Arrive, Take 5 Minutes to Save a Life:

🏨 Hotels: Look for interconnected smoke detectors in every room. Locate the manual pull stations in the hallway.
🏡 Rentals (Airbnb/VRBO): Verify detectors are installed in every sleeping area and on every level. Ask the host for documentation of their most recent test.
⚠️ No Alarms? If they are missing or chirping, notify management or your host immediately. Never stay somewhere without these life-saving devices.

A working alarm gives you the critical seconds to escape. Your family's safety is worth the brief check. Have a wonderful, safe trip!

WALL TOWNSHIP FIRE BUREAU

The most important plan you’ll ever make is how to get out.

We all have a plan on paper, but can you execute it at 2 AM with a smoky room and the power out? To make your family truly safe, a fire escape plan must be practiced. Our core message: Drill with everyone in your household, once during the day and once at night.

This split infographic shows how to maximize your drills:

☀ DAY DRILL: Focus on SPEED and Alternate Paths. Practice getting to your meeting place quickly. Identify backup exits like a window with a collapsible ladder.

☾ NIGHT DRILL: Focus on WAKING UP and Navigating. Practice crawling low to avoid rising smoke. Use flashlights to get to the meeting place. Does your child's alarm wake them?

Share this with your friends, family, and neighborhood groups. Challenge them to a day and night drill this week. A plan is only good if it works. GET OUT, STAY OUT! THEN CALL 911.

🌷 Spring Cleaning: It’s Not Just About the Dust! 🌷

As you open the windows and grab the mop this week, our Fire Prevention Bureau wants to remind you that a clean home is a safer home. Clutter is more than just an eyesore; it’s high-speed fuel for a fire.

Give your home a "Safety Refresh" with these 3 essentials:

Clear the Path: Ensure all hallways, stairs, and doors are completely clear. If you had to escape in the dark or through smoke, would you trip?

Mind the Heat: Keep "combustibles" (paper, cleaning rags, cardboard) at least 3 feet away from furnaces, water heaters, and space heaters. Your appliances need room to breathe!

Don’t Block the Exit: Never store bikes, boxes, or bins in front of exits. Every second counts in an emergency.

Let's spring into a safer season together. 🚒💨

While Belmar's St. Patrick's Day Parade was postponed, we still want everyone to have a fantastic—and safe—month of celebrations. Fire safety is a team effort!

Please keep these guidelines in mind when you enjoy the parades and festivities:

Parking Matters: Avoid parking in front of fire hydrants or in designated "Fire Lanes." In an emergency, every second counts.

Crowd Safety: In large crowds, it’s easy to get disoriented. If you are entering a building, take a moment to locate the nearest fire exit.

Cooking & Tailgating: If you are using portable heaters or grills, never leave them unattended and keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

Reporting Hazards: If you see an overloaded electrical outlet at a vendor stand or a suspicious hazard, notify a parade marshal or a police officer immediately.

Let’s keep the luck going all day long by looking out for one another. Share this post to help your neighbors stay informed!
