🔦As Children we are taught to be afraid of the dark.
We spend our childhood running away from the dark.
Avoiding the dark at all costs.
It is dangerous and evil lurks there.
Don’t look at it, don’t acknowledge it, pretend it doesn’t exist!!

🌚 As Adults we learn to fear the light.
We know there are evils in the dark.
It can and will still get us, especially if it can find us.
The Light becomes feared for shining Bright is how the Dark finds you.
So we hide from the light, for fear the dark will FINALLY get us in spite

🌚🕯️🌚🕯️🌚🕯️🌚🕯️🌚🕯️🌚🕯️🌚🕯️

🕯️Shine your Light for all to see
Nows the Time to stand in integrity
For the Dark can only stay if left checked
And our numbers in Light is what it doesn’t expect🕯️

How are you talking to yourself — really?

The words you repeat become the tone your nervous system lives in.

Gentle doesn’t mean weak.
Kind doesn’t mean complacent.
It means safe. ❤️

Notice. Soften. Respond with care.🙏

Traumatic stress is stored not only as memory, but as patterns in the nervous system and body. 🧠🤍

• Jaw tension → inhibited expression & stress
• Shoulders → sustained guarding, responsibility & threat
• Chest → grief, anxiety & autonomic regulation
• Hips & pelvis → survival responses & postural defense
• Breath → bracing, control & hypervigilance 🌬️

Somatic dance draws from body-based trauma therapies, using movement, interoception, and breath to support nervous system regulation and allow stored tension to release — without requiring verbal recall of traumatic events.

The body is not holding trauma because it’s broken — it’s holding it because it adapted to survive. ❤️

If you feel like you’re white-knuckling life…
holding it all in your jaw, shoulders, chest, and breath —
your body is asking for release.

Through somatic practices like movement and stillness,
you can soften, regulate, and come back home to yourself.

I was doing this too.
Tight. Bracing. Pushing through.
And I learned… you can gain control by letting go.

Stop sabotaging the soma by saying “I’m sorry.”
You’re beautiful. ❤️

Every time you apologize unnecessarily, you’re signaling to your body that you’ve done something wrong.
This is your gentle reminder:

✨ Pause.
✨ Breathe.
✨ Choose different words.

You don’t need to apologize for existing, feeling, or taking up space.

Tonglen Meditation (Compassion Practice)

⚠️ Trigger warning: If you’re not feeling emotionally stable right now, this practice may not be supportive for you today.

In Tonglen, we do something different.

Instead of only breathing in love and light, we gently breathe in the pain, fear, and heaviness — from ourselves, our neighbors, and the world.

And with every exhale,
we offer compassion.
We offer relief.
We offer love back into the places that hurt.

This practice reminds us:
We don’t turn away from suffering.
We meet it with an open heart.
And we let it soften us instead of harden us.

🖤 Inhale suffering
🤍 Exhale compassion

Snow days remind us how to slow down. ❄️

Today’s somatic movement is about gentle re-entry — soft stretches, deep breaths, and listening to what your body actually needs.
No rushing. Just returning.

Post-snow practice:
• Start seated or lying down
• Lengthen your exhales
• Keep movements small and slow
• Pause before strain

Comfort is part of the work. ❤️

✨ So what does this actually mean? ✨

The words somatic and embodied are often used interchangeably in the movement world — but they’re not the same.

🌀 Somatic refers to the body as experienced from the inside.

It’s about sensation, feeling, and the internal awareness of movement — noticing what’s happening within as you move.

🌿 Embodied goes deeper.
It’s a fully present, intentional, and lived experience of movement. One that includes emotion, story, breath, and authentic self-expression — not just physical action.

At Divine Somatics, we’re not here to perform movement or follow trends.

We create space to slow down, listen, and let the body lead.

Because embodiment isn’t something you do.
It’s something you feel, remember, and live. 💫

✨ TWO WAYS TO PRACTICE EACH MONTH ✨

At Divine Somatics, we now offer two distinct monthly practices — one for BEING and one for DOING.

🌀 Know Yourself Series
A reflective, inquiry-based practice to explore themes like Comfort, self-awareness, and deeper understanding.

🌿 Somatic Alignment Practice- Stillness
An embodied movement experience to regulate the nervous system, find ease, and feel safety in the body. We’re focusing on stillness. Doing this for 1-2 minutes to start will ease the body, and more importantly the mind, into a state of presence.

You can choose what feels most supportive for you —
the being, the doing, or both.

This month’s Know Yourself theme: Comforts
What brings you comfort?
What soothes your soul?

Let’s explore together. 💫

01/15/2026

Stillness is how the body receives the message that it is safe.
After chaos, pausing allows the nervous system to settle, witness, and integrate what just occurred.

The fastest path to calm is not doing more —
it’s becoming still. 🙏
