While belonging to the Black or African American community is a source of strength and pride, Black individuals often face unique mental health challenges because of the U.S.’s political and cultural climate of white supremacy.

How to Participate in The First Annual You Are Not Alone Mental Health Awareness Walk May 2, King, NC:

Dear Stokes County Friends of Mental Health:

Fighting Goliath for Mental Illness and Sid’s House Mental Health Association invite you to participate in our first annual You’re Not Alone Mental Health Awareness Walk on Saturday, May 2, from 9:00AM-12:00PM at King Central Park (302 Kirby Rd). The walk benefits our no-cost mental health services in Stokes County.

This community walk is designed to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind individuals and families that we are not alone in our mental health journeys. The event will bring together community members, families, service providers, and local organizations for a meaningful, visible show of support.

We provide peer-led mental health and grief support groups, art expression and community art programming led by local artists, crisis navigation and family support, legal clinics, outreach education that reduces stigma and isolation, informational presentations to churches and schools, and more.

There are several ways to participate in our walk:

1. Vendors will have the opportunity to connect with local attendees, share information, products or services, show visible support for mental health awareness, and be recognized as a community partner supporting hope and connection.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the Vendor Application below by March 12, 2026. Set up begins at 7:00AM. The table/tent fee is $100.00. Feel free to contact us with questions!

Our Movement Starts Here

“Our Movement Starts Here” is an 82-minute feature length documentary chronicling the birth of the environmental justice movement in 1982 which was sparked by the fight of a rural, majority-Black community in Warren County, North Carolina, against a toxic PCB landfill.

The documentary combines contemporary interviews
with original protesters and newer activists to highlight how the movement continues to inspire efforts against environmental inequities, climate injustices and systemic marginalization that disproportionately affect communities of color. Younger activists are learning from their elders about the environmental movements, and how they are locally rooted yet internationally influential.

Parkway United Church of Christ, Temple Emanuel Environmental Movement, Green Street Methodist Church and Unitarian Universalist Fellowship are collaborating for the 2026 MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL FILM/SPEAKER SERIES in the hosting of these films.

Discussions to follow the showing of the films.

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! ALL ARE WELCOME!!!
