Hillendale was able to staff qualified caregivers on just one day's notice of hospital discharge. Throughout his care, I received detailed shift reports documenting medications administered, meals consumed, specific care provided, and household tasks completed. 💙 November is American Diabetes Month

This month, we’re proud to feature Karen Sibony, RN, CDCES, a longtime John Muir Health case manager and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist who has dedicated more than 30 years to helping patients and families navigate complex health challenges with compassion and expertise.

Karen began her career as a bedside nurse at Johns Hopkins and later transitioned into case management, where she spent 25 years advocating for patients and coordinating safe, supportive discharges home. Over the years, she has worked closely with trusted community partners like Hillendale to ensure families receive the highest quality care beyond the hospital.

Her passion for diabetes education became deeply personal when her daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 10. That experience gave Karen unique insight into the daily realities families face, from sleepless nights to learning new routines, and strengthened her belief in a holistic approach to wellness.

Today, she draws on that blend of professional expertise and personal understanding to educate and empower patients to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Karen’s story is a reminder that true care extends beyond treatment. It’s about guidance, empathy, and the village that surrounds each family.

🇺🇸 Honoring Colonel Conway B. Jones, Jr., this Veterans Day 🇺🇸

Today, we are proud to honor Colonel Conway B. Jones, Jr., a family member of a Hillendale client whose remarkable life reflects leadership, integrity, and service to both country and community.

A retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and Vietnam-era veteran, Colonel Jones served over 30 years in the Air Force, including 87 airlift missions and more than 6,800 flying hours. His distinguished service earned recognition from Congressman Ronald Dellums, who called him “the epitome of the citizen-soldier.”

Beyond his military career, Colonel Jones has been a lifelong advocate for the arts and veterans. He has founded and led organizations such as the Oakland Aviation Museum, the Clara Barton House & Garden, and the Oakland Arts Council. His generosity and vision also brought to life bronze tributes to civil rights leaders Congressman John Lewis and Congressman John Conyers, Jr., now housed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

We are deeply honored to know and care for Colonel Jones's family and thank him for his extraordinary service, leadership, and contributions to our community.
