Let's share some kudos for Yesenia Serrano!👏

👩‍🏫Yesenia has taken AWD classes for the last few years now. The "Introduction to Your Rights & Responsibilities in the Workplace" and "Self Determination" classes helped her feel workforce ready enough to get a part-time job at Dollar Tree, where she still works while continuing to take classes.

👩‍🎓Last year, Yesenia completed the Physical Therapy Aide program through Short-Term Vocational, a goal she has had since she started attending AWD classes. Now, her goal is to continue learning more about the profession before getting a job in the field. Yesenia says that all of the AWD classes helped prepare her for academic success!

We look forward to seeing what Yesenia does next!

The School of Continuing Education, in collaboration with the Equity Center, is excited to announce our 3rd annual anti-ageism campaign: Age Without Limits. Ageism refers to how we think (stereotypes), feel (prejudice), and act (discrimination) towards others or ourselves based on age. Ageism affects all of us throughout life and exists in our institutions, our relationships, and ourselves.

This campaign aims to tackle ageism by changing how we all think, feel, and act towards age and aging. Please join us for a variety of events designed to achieve this aim. All events are free and open to the public. Visit our campaign site to learn more about the events, register, and get involved. Visit tinyurl.com/AgeWithoutLimits for more information.

Happy first day of Fall term, AWD students! Here is some inspiration for the start of the school year:

Johanna, a longtime AWD student, began her sewing journey last year when she enrolled in a Sewing and Design class through the Vocational Re-Entry (VRE) program. Johanna at first struggled to sew a basic stitch, but over time, she developed her skill set and confidence. This past Spring term, Johanna was enrolled in the VRE Production of Boutique Crafts for Retail Sales class, where she created her very own dress! 💃 She worked tirelessly and with a positive attitude over the months to complete her project. Johanna loved learning new techniques and making her own product. In the future, Johanna would like to use her sewing skills to create other items such as baby blankets to donate to those in need. She is thankful to Mt. SAC for the class opportunities and to her instructor, Noelia B., for all her support and inspiration!

Beautiful work, Johanna! Keep it up. 👏
