What are Executive Functions?

The term executive functions is defined as a set of skills that act in a coordinated way to direct perception, emotion, thought and action. Executive functions control a person’s ability to engage in purposeful, organized, strategic, self-regulated and goal directed behavior. More plainly stated executive functions give the commands to engage. They direct or cue the engagement of other mental processes that we use to perceive, feel, think and act. It is your inner dialogue, or ability to use self-talk, that is involved with many skills, including the ability to interact socially with others, manage time and get to where you need to be with the materials needed, and the ability to be able to think about your own thinking and actions.

Meet Jill
Jill is a speech-language pathologist who earned her graduate degree from Emerson College in 2023. She works in a public school, supporting students' expressive, receptive, and social language development. Jill also has experience working with school-aged children with executive functioning challenges. She is passionate about helping children develop pragmatic and social language skills, empowering them to self-advocate and engage meaningfully with peers and adults. Outside of work, she enjoys exercising, reading, listening to audiobooks, spending time with her nephews, and relaxing at the beach.

Meet Grizz!!
Grizz, is a handsome English cream golden retriever, is a six-year-old certified therapy dog trained through Golden Opportunities for Independence in Walpole. Grizz is present at all sessions and is always available for petting, cuddling, deep pressure, or just a furry friend who will listen with unconditional love and acceptance.

Hi, I’m Michelle Gaudet. I am the founder and owner of Purposeful Connections:
Nurturing Independence and Social Interactions. I am an Elementary Education
Teacher, School Counselor, Parent Coach, and a Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst. I
have been working with kids, teens, young adults, and their parents for over 30 years. I
work with children, teens, young adults and families offering an array of social,
emotional, behavioral, and executive functioning therapy services and coaching. I am
the owner of Purposeful Connections, and my practice is in Medfield. My husband Rich
and I have two sons ages 21 and 23. When I am not working, you can find me walking
my black lab, practicing yoga, or attempting to knit.
