🔍 Impact of the War on Drugs:
 From 1972 to the late 1980s, U.S. incarceration rates doubled twice, largely due to policies targeting drug offenses. While crime rates fluctuated independently, new laws increased both the number of offenses that led to incarceration and the length of sentences.

📉 Shifting Away from High Incarceration Rates:
 Though the War on Drugs contributed to a peak where 1 in 32 adults were under correctional supervision by 2008, recent reforms are slowly reversing this. By 2018, that number dropped to 1 in 40, the lowest rate since 1993.

Today, more than 2 million Americans remain incarcerated, and drug policy reforms continue to shape discussions on criminal justice reform.
