Lois Rae Lewis Powell April 20, 1933 – April 23, 2026

Lois Rae Lewis Powell, 93, passed away on April 23, 2026, at her home just outside of Temple, Oklahoma — only six miles from where she was born on April 20, 1933, to Gordon Ray Lewis and Blanche Gammill Lewis in Temple.

Lois had a full life that carried her across oceans, yet she always made her way back to friends and family in Temple. She graduated as Valedictorian of Temple School in 1951 and took her first job at the David Rodolph Insurance and Real Estate office in Temple.

On August 9, 1953, Lois married a Temple boy, Harold Wayne Powell, at First Baptist Church in Temple — the first couple to be wed in the newly constructed sanctuary. They celebrated their 70th anniversary before Harold’s passing in 2023. After their wedding, Lois joined Harold in Norman as he pursued his education at the University of Oklahoma and she helped support the family working in a law office.

When Harold graduated and was commissioned into the United States Army, Lois embarked on a life that would take their growing family around the world. She raised their three children, Brenda, Beth, and Joseph, at posts that included Germany, Utah, Kansas, Hawaii, and multiple stints in Texas. She returned to Temple for a year when Harold served in Vietnam.

Lois trained as a tax accountant and worked for H&R Block at different locations, a car dealership and import shop in Hawaii, and for a chain of nursing homes that included Temple Manor. When Harold retired from the army, they returned to Cotton County, where for almost 50 years she helped run the farming operation as a bookkeeper and occasional farm hand.

Lois and Harold were involved in community life reviving the local newspaper, the Temple Tribune, and founding a museum dedicated to the history of Cotton County. Harold was the visionary; Lois was the one who did the detailed work that brought the vision to life. She built and maintained meticulous family history files for local families, kept the museum’s finances in order, updated its exhibits, and continued to run it with quiet dedication until her death.

Lois was also the keeper of her family’s story, tracing genealogy on trips with Harold, organizing records and photographs passed down through generations for both the Powell and the Lewis families and assembling detailed photo albums documenting the family’s life across decades and continents.

After returning to Temple, Lois and Harold traveled extensively, attended ranching conferences, brick collector meetings, and cruises with fellow Oklahomans organized by her cousin Jennifer Carroll.

Horses were a lifelong love. As a girl, Lois rode with her brother Tab and a local riding club. Tab later remembered the day they pulled off their saddles and rode ba****ck into Temple Lake. She was also an artist, painting scenes from her family life and travels, and she was a seamstress, who made her own clothes as a teenager and clothes for her children for many years.

Those who knew Lois remember her as kind, wise, gentle and quietly insightful.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother. She is survived by her children, Brenda Chuleewah, Beth Casteel, and Joseph Powell; her grandchildren, Conjotee Chuleewah, Ethan Lewis Casteel, R. Quinn Casteel, and Cole Powell Casteel; and her great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Tatum, and Sloane Casteel, along with many beloved friends and extended family across Cotton County and beyond.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Temple, Oklahoma, at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 27th, with Rev. Kevin Simpson officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Memorial Donations can be made to: Temple Museum Association, P.O. Box 234, Temple, OK 73568

Ken Haley

Kenneth Wayne Haley was born December 2, 1939, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to John Homer Haley and Renna Mae (Ford) Haley. He passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at his home in Temple at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 20 days.

He grew up in Hollis and graduated from Hollis High School in 1958. He went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he studied pharmacy. While attending SWOSU, Ken met the love of his life, Wanda, on a blind date. The two were married on July 1, 1960, in Delhi, Oklahoma, and shared nearly 66 years together.

After graduating in 1962, the couple moved to Hollis, where Ken worked at Searcey Pharmacy. Their children, Lisa and Stephen, were both born during the eight years they made their home there.

In 1970, Ken and Wanda moved their family to Temple, where they purchased Hooper Drug. They operated Haley Drug for the next 44 years, faithfully serving their community until closing in 2014. More than just a place to fill prescriptions, Haley Drug was a hub for the town, whether you needed a wedding gift, chocolates for Valentine’s Day, or a candy bar and bottle of Coke. Ken often filled prescriptions outside of business hours for those in need without complaint. The couple also formed lasting friendships with the Petty family in Walters and other surrounding pharmacies, creating a community they could all rely on.

Ken had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a talent for photography, capturing weddings, proms, sporting events, and livestock shows. He would take his film back to his darkroom and develop it so it would be ready for the next day’s paper. He also had a love for cars and drag racing, first with Stephen behind the wheel, and later with Lisa as she moved from the pit crew to driver. Ken and Wanda were avid cyclists, often riding 50-60 miles in a day, and they also enjoyed riding his BMW motorcycle and country dancing.

Family was very important to Ken. He coached Little League and often took the kids on Sunday afternoon adventures, riding dirt bikes and giving Wanda time to rest. He and his family enjoyed traveling together, especially trips to state parks, where he would reluctantly ride horses whenever the kids wanted to. After Lisa went to college, the family began taking annual trips to Port Aransas. No matter what he was doing, Ken gave it his full effort and did it to the best of his ability. Both of his children followed in his footsteps, becoming pharmacists, a testament to his influence and example. When the grandchildren came along, Ken and Wanda bought a big van and hauled them all over, enjoying many trips to the movies.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lena Mae Stephens.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Haley of the home; 2 children, Lisa Ledford and Jeremy of Temple and Stephen Haley and Dee Anna of Owasso; 8 grandchildren, Chad Haley and Cristal of Moore, Kelsey Bentley and Kyle of Velma, Katelyn Anthony and Joe of Norman, John Haley and Ryan of Caney, Kansas, Jeffrey James of Temple, Gavin Ledford and Micaela of Temple, Kena Johnson and Bryce of Fort Worth, Texas, and Haley Ledford of Temple; 8 great-grandchildren, Benton, Adalyn, Emersyn, Hagen, Lincoln, Mary Opal, Ruby, Annika, and one soon to arrive, Charlee; along with nieces and other extended family and friends who will greatly miss him.

No formal services are scheduled per Ken’s request.

Steve Langford

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Temple, OK, on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

On September 15, 1944, Steve Langford was born in Temple, Oklahoma to Kermit and Geraldine Jarrett Langford and departed this life in Purcell, OK on April 12, 2026 at the age of 81.

A difficult birth resulted in substantial injuries that caused lifelong problems for Steve. Just as important, it also defined his “never give up” character.

Steve grew up in Temple, living with his large family in the “Round House” north of town. Despite his handicaps he was taught discipline and not to be afraid to try.

The city of Temple helped Steve develop. Many townspeople were instrumental in making sure Steve was included and given a chance. Through sheer determination Steve played summer league sports and attended school.

In the early 1970’s Steve moved to Lawton and was given the chance of a lifetime. He was employed by civil service to work for the Fort Sill, OK post laundry. Later he transferred to work at the post commissary.

Another transfer sent Steve moving to Norman, OK. He had a new job working at Tinker Air Force Base as a “parts chaser” on the aircraft engine assembly line. He retired in 1995.

Steve was a Sooner and a football season ticket holder for thirty years. He and brother Warren traveled all over the Midwest to attend OU football games.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, big sister Karen and little brother Richard.
