MedVadis Research is a clinical trial research center in Waltham, MA that is on a mission to improve the lives of those with migraines, chronic pain, Alzheimerโ€™s, and other debilitating conditions. By volunteering to be part of a study, you not only receive treatment for yourself but are potentially helping to alleviate the suffering of others around the world. The studies usually also involve a placebo, which is a non-active medication, for comparison. Most studies have a duration of 3 to 5 months but some last for 1 to 2 years. The visits range from weekly to monthly and generally last for 1 to 2 hours. The Alzheimerโ€™s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) at University of California San Diego School of Medicine in conjunction with the BenfoTeam clinical research trial aims to increase the amount of vitamin B1 (thiamine) in the brain to slow cognitive decline in people with mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimerโ€™s disease.

Vitamin B1 is essential to brain health, the brain needs vitamin B1 to use glucose for energy. Dysfunction of the brainโ€™s ability to process glucose is a known marker of Alzheimerโ€™s disease.

This non-opioid investigational medication is being developed for pain management. To be eligible for this study you must be age 18 - 80, inclusive have type 1 or type 2 diabetes and have pain in both legs due to diabetes for at least one year.
