My approach to music therapy is rooted in a “client centered” practice that works toward building upon the unique abilities of each client within the context of a therapeutic relationship. s the capacity for their own unique musical expressiveness that serves as a basis to facilitate therapeutic growth and progress towards a wide range of both musical and non-musical goal areas. By working with these unique musical expressions and inclinations and creating a customized music based experience, I believe it helps drive the students motivation in music therapy and allows them to become more open towards working on other areas of growth and exploration. This “client centered” approach requires active music making and a diversified musical approach. As a result, clients working in music therapy have the opportunity to work with a wide range of instruments and musical experiences that may include the use of guitar, piano, percussion, singing, songwriting, sound recording and the exploration of music based technologies.
