When Justin, a Dialysis Clinic Manager working for Fresenius Medical Care, needed urgent surgery, he faced a difficult decision. The procedures were critical to prevent further damage to his health, but the cost and public hospital wait times added significant stress for him and his family.

Support from the CARES Fund — Fresenius Medical Care’s global employee hardship fund — helped him act when time mattered most. “The grant was very helpful. It allowed me to make the decision to prioritize my health, instead of worrying about the huge medical bills,” Justin shared.

Stories like Justin’s reflect our culture that is rooted in care, empathy, and support for one another. “Care” isn’t just in our name; it’s who we are.

From high school graduate to Patient Care Technician (PCT) to Clinic Manager — Melanie’s story shows what career growth can look like at Fresenius Medical Care.

Starting out, she had little knowledge of dialysis but a strong commitment to learning, Melanie found more than a job — she found a path and purpose. With the support of our tuition reimbursement program and competitive benefits, Melanie earned her nursing degree, transitioned into an RN role, completed her BSN, and stepped into leadership as a Charge RN.

During the height of the COVID pandemic, she said “yes” to the hard moments — serving as the primary RN and Interim Clinic Manager for a designated isolation clinic when uncertainty was at its peak. That willingness to step up shaped her career and, ultimately, led her to her current role as a Clinic Manager.

As she puts it: “The company doesn’t just offer a paycheck; they offer an education. It’s essentially the company investing in your future — take it.”

Continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) is often used in the management of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury, particularly those who are hemodynamically unstable. These patients often exhibit disorders in acid-base status. In this seminar, experienced faculty will provide insight into patient-and treatment-associated factors contributing to such disorders and potential measures that may help guide appropriate clinical management. Reducing therapy downtime requires effective anticoagulation, which should be carefully managed to meet therapeutic goals and avoid exacerbation of underlying disorders or introducing new complications. Our expert panel will discuss key underpinnings of the management of patients receiving CKRT and common challenges related to anticoagulation and acid-base management. This interactive discussion will feature case presentations and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions regarding your own challenging scenarios related to anticoagulation and acid-based management in critically ill patients with AKI.
