The Story of Oppy Berneice Davis Gore

On the banks of the Tug Fork River, in Mingo County, West Virginia, in the community of Winco Block, Ran and Gladys Davis gave birth to a daughter, Oppy Berneice, on January 8, 1939.

Oppy was part of a large family, with many siblings. Her brothers who are deceased are James Snyder, Paul Davis, and Charles Ed Davis. Oppy also had a sister who is deceased, Betty Marcum. Her other siblings who are still with us are brothers, Clyde Davis, Wayne Davis, and Harold Davis, and sisters, Hope Newsome and Jonelle Simpkins, all of the Columbus, Ohio, area.

Oppy was a graduate of Lenore High School, and shortly after graduation, she married the love of her life, the late Reverend Kenneth Gore, on August 24, 1957. She and Ken pastored many area churches and ministered until his death in 2021. Their union produced three children, Beverly Carol Workman of Lenore, Wv, Kenneth Dale and Helen Gore of Lenore, Wv, and Patricia Lynn and Mike Bostic of Chattaroy, Wv.

As their children grew up, they also saw their family blessed with grandchildren, Tabitha Workman, who is deceased, Brad (Mallissa) Workman of Lenore, Wv, Whitney (Randy) Blalock of Belfry, KY, Chris Gore (Katlyn Keene), and Ryan (Andrea) Gore of Lenore, Wv. The next generation saw the addition of great grandchildren, Brad Workman, II, Savannah Workman, Alissa Workman, Bryson Blalock, Tyler Gore, and Wayne Gore, who is deceased.

Oppy was a gifted musician and singer, and she led worship until she was physically unable to do it anymore. She was a member of Living Stone Church of God in Lenore, Wv.

On March 14, 2026, God called Oppy to her heavenly home. She got to see Jesus, whom she had served for most of her life, and she heard the Savior say, "Well done good and faithful servant."

A special thanks goes out to her dear friends, Sharon and Alison Jarvis, whom Oppy loved very much.

Mullins Family Funeral Home, Story

I, Joseph Mullins along side my wife; Melissa Dempsey Mullins, and our son, Marvin Lee Mullins are the humbled owners of the Mullins Family Funeral Home. I have dreamed of one day owning my own funeral home and now with the help of God and the public we can now say we are here. I started working in a funeral home while still in high school during my junior and senior years. I worked in a student work program for Phelps & Son Funeral in Inez, KY; in which I am grateful to Bill, Billy, and Jenny Phelps for allowing me to serve there from 1998 til 2003. I went to Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Indiana where I obtained my degree in Mortuary Science. Coming back home in 2003 when I became licensed and in 2004 started working as a licensed embalmer and funeral director for Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home. I worked there until June of 2017 when I was blessed with an opportunity to serve the people of Martin County and the surrounding areas at my fullest capacity. I thank Sara, Kelly, and Keli Callaham-Ayers for the experience I acquired while working for them. As a minister I find it easy to sympathize with the families in there deepest times of sorrow. Here at Mullins Family Funeral Home we pride ourselves in being a family oriented funeral home and invite you to come by and experience our family atmosphere. May God Bless you and Your families.
