Seborrheic keratosis (or seb k) is a common skin growth. It may seem worrisome because it can look like a wart, pre-cancerous skin growth or skin cancer. Seborrheic keratoses range in color from white to black; however, most are tan or brown. Despite their appearance, seborrheic keratoses are harmless and not contagious. Most often, you'll find these on the chest, back, head, or neck.

How do you treat it?
Seborrheic keratoses are harmless, most often do not need treatment. A dermatologist may remove a seborrheic keratosis when it: Looks like a skin cancer, gets caught on clothing or jewelry, becomes irritated easily or seems unsightly to a patient.

Summer is in full force and while the sun is shining bright, it’s a golden time to highlight July as UV Safety Awareness Month!

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation are invisible rays that are part of the energy that comes from the sun. Overexposure to the sun’s UV rays causes damage to the skin and can cause different types of skin cancer.

There are two types of UV radiation: UVA and UVB. Both have been linked to skin cancer and a weakening of the immune system. They also can cause cancer of the eyes and cataracts.

Early detection is important! Both monthly self-skin exams and yearly skin checks by your dermatology provider are key to protecting yourself.
