Welcome Ashley, we are so glad to have you!
Vonnie has been retired for almost an entire year now but we wouldn't want to miss out on celebrating her birthday today. In her last year of practice I named her birthday as Founder's Day because without her vision Awareness would have never opened it's doors! Happy Birthday Vonnie!

Meet Thomas Jarvis, one of the counselors available at Awareness...

Hello, my goal as a therapist is to help you lead your best life. I want to help you examine issues that keep you from your goals and dreams and encourage you as you develop new ways of thinking. I will use cognitive behavioral therapy to challenge your thinking and help you process your thoughts and plans. I will support you unconditionally as you find your best self. My experience in working with all age groups; in social services, with families and foster children; in K-12 schools with academic, behavioral, and social issues; and at the university level, will assist me in offering quality individual and family counseling for adults, children, and teens.

Specialties: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Depression, Anxiety, Child and Adolescent Issues, School Issues, Stress Management

Education: EdD, Counseling Psychology, Argosy University, 2006

Licenses: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS)

Meet Philip on our first Meet & Greet March Monday!

My name is Philip Clary, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia. I have over 9 years of counseling experience working with individuals, couples, and families in inpatient and outpatient settings.

I earned a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University with majors in philosophy and German. I studied for 1 year at Phillips Universität in Marburg, Germany and received a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fort Valley State University.

I am interested in helping you understand, cope with, manage, and reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety. I also enjoy working in the area of career exploration and career changes by examining natural interests, aptitudes, and values and considering possible career choices that incorporate all three areas.

My approach to therapy is informed by several useful perspectives. I employ elements of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness-based therapy, existential psychotherapy, and clinical hypnosis. I am certified to use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument for career exploration and counseling. When appropriate, I incorporate elements of popular culture, such as video games, anime and manga, comics, and superhero literature and movies. These are great resources for storylines that many can relate to in deeper and more meaningful ways than traditional talk therapy.

Exploring the writings of many great philosophers and my own half-century journey on this earth have helped me understand that life presents us with many inevitable, unavoidable challenges common to us all. I work patiently and compassionately with those seeking to understand and come to terms with feelings of shame, loss and grief, meaninglessness, isolation, and ultimately our limited lifespan. I hope to help others, young and old, discover or create their own meaning and purpose in life. I want to help people answer for themselves, “How do I want to live the rest of my life?” and to develop ways to meaningfully connect with others.

I look forward to working with you to set and meet your goals for your best life.

I want you to really think about this- if the thoughts you had about yourself surfaced like ink on your body, how would you feel?

Our thoughts are extremely powerful, and so many people are completely unaware (🙋🏼‍♀️ I’ve been there too) of how they allow their internal dialogue to become their primary voice- whether it’s how they talk to or about themselves, or how they engage with the world.

Just for today I want you think:
If my best friend saw this thought, what would they say?
If my (person you love and respect) saw this thought, how would that make them feel?
Where did this thought come from?
What evidence supports this thought?
What evidence refutes this thought?

You do not need to be held captive to thoughts that don’t serve you or hurt you, you can take control and change them! It won’t be easy, but it will be so very worth it.
