Meet Dr. Mansour, one of our dedicated Emergency Medicine Core Faculty Members and Simulation Lab Director. Originally from Southfield, MI, Dr. Mansour earned her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency training at Central Michigan University. She shares that one of the most rewarding parts of being a faculty member is the constant challenge and inspiration that comes from working with residents—who push her to grow while she supports their development into strong, independent emergency physicians. Outside of the ED, Dr. Mansour enjoys exploring Detroit’s diverse food scene and visiting the city’s many incredible breweries.

Meet Dr. Boutorwick, one of our Core Faculty members and the Ultrasound Director for our Emergency Medicine program. Originally from Madison Heights, MI, Dr. Boutorwick completed medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to train at our very own residency program—then known as Ascension Macomb-Oakland—graduating with the Class of 2018. He finds great fulfillment in mentoring residents and building meaningful relationships with colleagues, noting how rewarding it is to watch trainees grow into confident, capable clinicians. A proud Detroiter, Dr. Boutorwick enjoys the city’s rich musical heritage, vibrant culture, and easy access to professional sports. As a longtime Red Wings fan, he’s especially looking forward to the upcoming season.

Meet Dr. Ma, one of our EM Core Faculty Members and Medical Student Clerkship Director. Originally from Rochester, MI, Dr. Ma completed medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine and went on to train in Emergency Medicine at DMC Sinai-Grace. He says the best part of being a faculty member is the opportunity to teach and mentor residents while watching them grow into confident, skilled emergency physicians. What he loves most about Detroit is its resilience, strong sense of community, and incredible food scene.

Meet Dr. Gutierrez, one of our EM Core Faculty Members. Originally from Dearborn Heights, MI, Dr. Gutierrez attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency training at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital (now McLaren Oakland). He says the most rewarding part of his role is the privilege of teaching and witnessing young doctors grow into confident, compassionate emergency physicians. A proud Michigander, Dr. Gutierrez loves Michigan’s summer and fall seasons, cheering on Detroit’s sports teams—especially the Tigers—and, of course, rooting for his Spartans. Go Green!

Meet Dr. Churukian, our Emergency Medicine Assistant Program Director. Originally from Toronto, he’s called Michigan home since kindergarten. He completed medical school at MSUCOM and residency at what is now Henry Ford Jackson. For Dr. Churukian, the most rewarding part of being faculty is watching residents grow from interns into confident senior physicians—and he credits the residents for shaping his own path into residency education and leadership. Outside of medicine, he’s a self-proclaimed nerd who’s into everything from video games and Dungeons & Dragons to Warhammer 40K, fitness, and trying every protein snack and energy drink he can find.

Meet Dr. Etta, one of our Core Faculty Members and Assistant Medical Director. Originally from West Bloomfield, MI, Dr. Etta completed his medical training at the American University of the Caribbean and went on to complete his residency here at Henry Ford in Warren and Madison Heights, graduating with the Class of 2021. As a faculty member, he says the best part of his job is watching residents grow and transform over the course of their three years of training. When he’s not in the Emergency Department, you’ll likely find him enjoying time by Lake St. Clair—his favorite spot in the Detroit area.

Meet Dr. Saab, our Emergency Medicine Chair at Henry Ford Warren and Madison Heights. Originally from Dearborn Heights, Dr. Saab completed his medical education at the American University of the Caribbean and went on to train in Emergency Medicine at Ascension St. John Hospital (now Henry Ford St. John) in Detroit. As a faculty member, he says the most rewarding part of his role is watching residents grow—both in their clinical skills and in their confidence caring for patients. She’s originally from Houston, Texas 🤠 and earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine 🎓

Outside of medicine, Ariel loves playing tennis, making her own wine, testing out new recipes, and going on adventures with her sweet (and slightly wild) Goldendoodle 🎾🍷👩‍🍳🐶

In 10 years, she hopes to be making a meaningful impact through mentorship, serving underserved communities, and possibly working in global health or event medicine 🌍💪🏽💙

Meet Dr. Khalie Mahoney, one of our incredible interns we are highlighting today in our Spotlight Series!

She was born in Portage la Prairie, Canada 🇨🇦 but spent most of her childhood in Penang, Malaysia 🇲🇾

She earned her medical degree from St. George’s University 🎓

Outside of medicine, Khalie finds peace in reading and working out 💪📚 During COVID, she also discovered a love for painting—though med school made it harder to find the time 🎨🩺

Looking ahead, she hopes to complete a fellowship in clinical forensics and live closer to her nieces and nephew… but she’s also keeping her heart open to wherever the next 10 years lead! 🕵️‍♀️✨

Favorite food? It’s a tie between curry puffs and cashew nut chicken—comfort food at its finest 🥟🍛🥢

Say hi to Dr. Austin Cox, one of our PGY-1s we are highlighting in today’s Intern Spotlight Series!

He’s originally from New Ulm, Minnesota 🏡 and went to Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine for med school👨‍⚕️

Outside of medicine, Austin enjoys skiing, hitting the gym, and baking up something good on his days off 🎿🏋️‍♂️🍰

In 10 years, he sees himself working in a community hospital—hopefully after completing a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine 🏥👶⚕️

And when it comes to food? Chinese takeout is the go-to—especially pineapple chicken and an eggroll 🍍🐔🥡
