Trumbull Mobile Meals is celebrating our 55th anniversary today serving the seniors and home-bound individuals of Trumbull County. Founded by Jean Schlecht and Pat Venetta, with the assistance of the Trumbull County Medical Auxiliary. The first meal was delivered from Trumbull Memorial Hospital on November 10, 1970, to Paul Scheska. It quickly grew to two when Paul’s neighbor told Jean that “since we had fed his neighbor for two weeks and hadn’t poisoned him, he would take our meals too.”

Several churches, especially Christ Episcopal, helped by donating items and services. A volunteer marked the bags and lids, while another lady made aprons for us that were worn by the packers volunteering in the hospital kitchens.

When St. Joseph’s Hospital joined us; routes were expanded outside the City of Warren to Newton Falls and Niles. As we grew, we moved our offices to several locations, but in October 2006 we finally bought our own building on East Market.

The purchase of our own building was a major turning point and change of food bases. We no longer used the hospitals as a food base and gradually began to cook, prepare and package all the meals on site. This would not have been possible without the expertise and devotion of a multitude of others. Jean was so proud of the fact that we did not lose one day of delivery during this time of transition.

If any past staff or volunteers have any pictures from the past, please post in the comments and share with us all. We are so blessed and thankful for all the help Trumbull Mobile Meals received throughout the years from our community.

We would like to congratulate Marilyn Titus and Carol Olson as our 2025 Volunteers of the Year. Marilyn is one of our volunteer drivers and has been instrumental in delivering meals when and where needed. Carol is one of our packers helping pack our meals and get them ready for our clients. Without dedicated volunteers like Marilyn and Carol, we couldn't fulfill our mission to provide meals to seniors and homebound individuals in Trumbull County. Thank you ladies for all that you do. Your dedication is greatly appreciated.
