On October 19th, 2024, Michigan social worker Rachel Crandall-Crocker, LMSW, was formally inducted as a Social Work Pioneer with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) at the annual ceremony in Washington DC.

The NASW Social Work Pioneers program honors those in the social work profession who have contributed to the evolution of social work and made lasting change on the broader society. Rachel was honored for her work with the transgender community and the creation of the International Transgender Day of Visibility. Rachel and her now wife, Susan Crocker, founded the organization Transgender Michigan in 1997 to educate about gender identity and expression, and about the injustices faced by transgender individuals, and to advocate for and provide support to the transgender community. Transgender Michigan is so busy. We have 2 events in November. The Halloween Birthday Party is at Affirmations in Ferndale from 1-5pm on Saturday November 2. Our Transgender Job Fair is at Affirmations on Thursday November 14 from 1-4pm?.

This weekend, Michigan's own Crandall-Crocker was inducted as a NASW Pioneer at the 18th annual celebration in Washington DC. The NASW Pioneers have paved the way for thousands of other social workers to contribute to the betterment of the human condition; and they are are role models for future generations of social workers. Congratulations, Rachel!
