Black History Month is a time to honor heritage and strengthen the conversations that matter, including mental health.
Despite experiencing mental health challenges at similar rates to other groups, Black Americans are less likely to receive treatment and face significant stigma around seeking help. Only about 25% of Black Americans seek mental health treatment when needed, compared with roughly 40% of white Americans, a disparity influenced by stigma, access barriers, and cultural factors.
Let’s break the silence and normalize support. Talking openly about mental health, from community spaces to professional settings, helps reduce stigma and promotes healing.
