Last week, orthopedic surgeons Dr. Scott Koenig and Dr. Anna Green had the opportunity to engage with residents of our community at two local events.

Dr. Koenig, who specializes in hip and knee replacements, gave a presentation titled “From Aching to Active: Surgical and Non-Surgical Paths for Hip and Knee Arthritis” to residents of Heritage Hunt on Oct. 21. His talk helped dispel some misconceptions about joint replacements.

Dr. Green, who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, attended Fauquier Health’s “In the Pink” event on Oct. 23 as part of a physician panel. She was able to speak one-on-one with many of the women who attended the event.

After 70 years, the lead apron era is over.

The routine use of lead shields to protect patients from x-ray scatter radiation started in the 1950s, but is no longer recommended by several medical organizations. Many years of research have proven the shields offer no added benefit for patient safety when using modern x-ray machines.

Our x-ray techs are happy to answer any questions or address any concerns patients might have about getting an x-ray and the new shielding recommendation.

Most people steer clear of a lifestyle with a high risk of physical injury. Robert Hornung is not one of those people.

Employed as an animal control officer for the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, Robert doesn’t usually seek R&R after a tough day at work. Instead, he spends much of his free time training in marshal arts and full-contact combat sports such as Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA. As you might imagine, he’s a familiar face in our clinic.

As if his day-to-day activities weren’t extreme enough, he’s chosen to participate in this weekend’s Virginia Xtreme Hike, a grueling 26.2-mile hike at Massanutten. The event is one of over 20 challenging Xtreme Hikes held across the nation as a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We are thrilled to announce orthopedic surgeon Anna Green, MD, has joined our practice! She specializes in the treatment of hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries and conditions, such as:

→ Rotator cuff injuries
→ Trigger finger
→ Carpal tunnel syndrome
→ Cubital tunnel syndrome
→ Arthritis
→ Tendonitis/tendinopathy
→ Distal radius fractures
→ Acute trauma injuries

Dr. Green grew up in Northern Virginia and we are grateful she has returned to this area. Her skills will help provide our community access to comprehensive hand and upper extremity care.
