This month is National Reading Month. WCHD child health program partners with Reach Out and Read. Our child health patients receive a brand new book with each well child visit from birth through 5 years of age to take home and build their own library. Check out a couple of educational tools provided by Reach Out and Read. Look at how just sitting and reading a book with your child can help them deal with stress. It is amazing how that interaction with your child can make them feel safe and secure. We ask you to try reading a book with your child and give us a shout out for National Reading Month and beyond!

Measles is a highly contagious but it's preventable. The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella and helps to keep our whole community healthy. NCDHHS recommends anyone over age 1 year and older who is not vaccinated get the measles vaccine. Call the Warren County Health Department to schedule an appt for the MMR vaccine at 252-257-1185.

Dr. Margaret Brake, Health Director and staff of the Warren County Health Department would like to thank Mr. Stanley C. Jones Jr., President and the Warren County Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee for selecting our agency as the recipient of the 2026 MLK Local Government Trailblazer Award which was presented at the Annual Warren County Martin Luther King Jr. Service. This award recognizes the Health Department’s outstanding service, leadership, and positive impact within the Warren County community, exemplifying the values and legacy of Dr. King.
