A beautiful start to 2026! Sweet Laura gave birth to the Center's first litter of the year - 8 tiny, chubby, and perfect puppies, each of whom could become a life-changing guide dog, service dog, or emotional support dog.

These beautiful pups are sleeping, eating, and cuddling with Laura, but in a few months they will begin a journey of learning, loving, and training - on the path to changing lives.

Welcome to the world, precious puppies. What an exciting start to the new year!

Before heading out to ring in the New Year, I’ve been thinking about the quiet moments—when a dog helps someone breathe through fear, or safely cross a street, or feel less alone. Because of you, our dogs do this and so much more. 🦮🥰

Some stories are too important not to share because they highlight what matters most:

Ami (a pseudonym), who has a PTSD Service Dog from us found himself stuck in traffic due to roadblocks during recent protests in Israel. The cars came to a complete standstill for minutes that felt like hours.

At first, Ami tried to use the skills he learned to manage the rising anxiety—looking ahead, checking his phone, telling himself it would pass. But his body reacted faster than his thoughts. His breathing grew shallow. His heart rate climbed. The urge to pull over and confront the protesters began to build.

Then police vehicles arrived with their flashing lights, and blaring sirens. But they got stuck near Ami in the traffic. The noise and chaos pushed Ami dangerously close to a flashback. Losing control felt imminent.

Inside the car, his PTSD service dog, Bobby, went to work. Bobby shifted closer to Ami, initiated physical contact, applied pressure, and repeatedly brought Ami’s focus back to the present. He responded to changes in Ami’s breathing and tension exactly as he’d been trained to do—again and again—as the chaos outside intensified.

Ami didn’t get out of the car. He didn’t explode in anger. He let the police handle the situation. He even managed to message his family to let them know he’d be delayed.

By the time traffic began to move again, his body had already settled. Ami continued driving, reached his destinations, and completed everything he had planned for the day.

This isn’t a story about a traffic jam. It’s a story about training, partnership, and a PTSD service dog doing his job—precisely when it mattered most.

Last week these 8 sweet pups met and went home with their puppy raisers! They will spend the next year or so learning basic obedience and socialization.

Leave good luck messages to them and their puppy raisers in the comments.

At Hanukkah we remember that miracles don’t have to look dramatic; sometimes, they look cute & furry. Our clients shared this story:

“We were walking down the street, just a normal walk. Someone ahead of us came out of a bakery and a doughnut slipped from his hand onto the pavement. I didn’t notice anything, but my Guide Dog did. He slowed down just slightly—I could feel his hesitation. Then he simply kept walking. No command. No drama. A few steps later, a friend beside me said, ‘You know he almost stopped because of a doughnut.’”

People often think a Guide Dog is a hero when he stops at a curb. But sometimes the real heroism is meeting temptation in the middle of the street—and choosing to keep working.

That quiet strength, discipline, and devotion...that’s a kind of miracle too.

Meet the Feuer Family!

Siblings Ari, Mimi, and Leora are raising money together for their shared B'nai Mitzvah, with the goal of sponsoring a PTSD Service Dog Partnership at the Israel Guide Dog Center. To reach their goal, each is taking on a project to oversee - including a race, creating and selling calendars, and even Guide Dog croc charms!

The Feuers, including parents Lauren and Barry, have two dogs of their own who are beloved family members, so they understand the impact a dog can make. With Israel at war including many of their family members serving, the Feuers understand the trauma on the whole nation. So, when it came time to choose a B'nai Mitzvah project, raising money to fund a pup for a veteran with PTSD was a no-brainer for them.

PTSD Service Dogs at the Israel Guide Dog Center are specially raised and trained to assist veterans with their mental health. They can warn of oncoming panic attacks, interrupt nightmares, stand watch, and so much more! The Israel Guide Dog Center currently partners approximately 20 PTSD Service Dogs per year, and our goal is to create 50 annual partnerships by 2029.
