October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). At Voice and Vision, we employ and support individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities. If you are a local employer, there are many things you can do to support people with disabilities as they find value within your organization.

Pictured here is a proclamation released recently from Governor Shapiro to officially approve the recognition month to celebrate the 80th anniversary of this celebrated month "which focuses on education around disability employment
issues, the importance of inclusive policies and practices, and celebrates the many and varied ways America's workers with disabilities participate in the workforce."

Today is Global Peer Support Celebration Day! This annual worldwide event celebrates the work of peer supporters who provide hope and assistance to others navigating mental health, addiction, and trauma-related challenges. The day serves to recognize their significant contributions and raise public awareness about the importance of peer support.

What is Global Peer Support Celebration Day?

It is an annual international event to honor peer supporters.

It raises awareness about the vital role peer supporters play in the recovery and inclusion of people with mental health, addiction, and trauma-related challenges.

Peer supporters leverage their own lived experiences to help others.

How to participate?

Share stories: Tell stories about how peer support has impacted your life or the lives of others.

Express gratitude: Send thank-you notes or messages to peer supporters.

Amplify awareness: Spread the word about peer support's importance by sharing information and resources.

Join events: Look for local and online events, such as the Peer Support Summit hosted by the Mental Health Association in Delaware on October 16, 2025.

Visit the website of the National Association of Peer Supporters for more information:

This quote is from an anonymous individual who is in recovery from addiction and who wrote about their story for our Help and Hope Guide. We are grateful alongside them for having the courage to get help and find hope again. Can you think of a time of hardship or life-changing moment that you can look back on gratefully now?
