WARSAW – An Air Force veteran from Warsaw is the May 2026 Kosciusko County Veteran of the Month.
In introducing Brent L. Julian as the honoree, Veteran Service Officer Darryl McDowell said Julian was born in August 1942 in Warsaw to Harold and Margaret. Julian attended Warsaw High School and later joined the United States Air Force in September 1963. He received his initial training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, followed by advanced training conducted at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Mich., to become an administrative support specialist.
After serving four years, he was honorably discharged in September 1967, with the rank of Airman First Class/E4. After his time in service, Brent came back to Kosciusko County to work, starting off with Julian Construction and later with Zimmer until his retirement in 1993, McDowell said.
Julian married Asenath Shepherd in May 1976. They have four children: Stephen, Mark, Lori and Brian. He and his wife live in Warsaw and continue to serve their community, devoting time, effort and resources to Christ Covenant Church, McDowell stated. Julian continues to enjoy fishing, woodcarving, gardening and attending the monthly Veterans Coffee Group in Warsaw.
After being presented with his framed certificate, Julian said, “First of all, I want to thank everyone. Second of all, I enjoyed my time in the service, the four years I spent, even thought about staying longer, but didn’t. I could kick myself for that. I definitely enjoyed it. I would do it again if I had to.”
He thanked McDowell for his recommendations to him.
“I am a woodcarver, and if anyone, regardless of age, likes to carve wood, you can do it if you want to do it,” Julian said. “Also, as he said, I attend the Vets Coffee once a month here, and it’s a nice group of gentlemen and ladies that show up, and it’s great to be a part of that as well.”
He also talked about his and his spouse’s gardening attempts and what they offer at their booth at the farmers market at the county fairgrounds.
