Noroviruses are the leading cause of gastroenteritis—inflammation of the GI tract which may include diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Nanoencapsulated oregano EO inactivated murine norovirus 1, while only the free EO was viricidal. This suggests that oregano EO has potential to manage foodborne illnesses like gastroenteritis caused by noroviruses.

Sleep disturbances—sleep interruption, poor sleep quality, insufficient nighttime sleep, and nighttime awakenings—-are common among pregnant woman, affecting up to 76.3% of pregnant women, and rising after eight months of gestation. A randomized clinical trial assessed the effects of inhaling lavender EO on sleep quality and fatigue among pregnant women during their third trimester. Two drops of lavender EO were added to a gauze pad and held close to the nose to inhale every night before bedtime for two months. Inhalation of lavender EO significantly improved sleep quality and fatigue, showing that it is an inexpensive and non-invasive way to improve sleep quality among pregnant women.
