Researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital Down Syndrome Program in 2020 found that individuals with Down syndrome do not meet physical activity recommendations from the US Department of Health and Human Services. In this study, adults with Down syndrome had low daily step counts and high sedentary time.

Increasing your daily step count is a fun, effective way to reduce sedentary time and improve overall health, according to the American Heart Association. For the next three months, you and your loved one can aim for 7,000 steps every day. Turn this challenge into a competition for additional fun and motivation! You can check off this challenge on the 321go!® challenge checklist. More info: https://ow.ly/acVT50XiCGi

RFP now open! NICHE-MED awards Medical School Partners a $15,000 grant to implement curriculum enhancements that address gaps in medical education regarding patients with IDD. AADMD believes it is essential to include self-advocates with IDD in curriculum efforts. Schools should be prepared to work with community partner(s) to ensure meaningful inclusion of self-advocates in curriculum development and delivery. Medical School Partners get access to technical assistance from AADMD to ensure project success. At this time, Medical School partners must be located in the U.S. and are only eligible to receive a NICHE-MED MSP grant one-time.

The RFP for academic year 2026-2027 (cohort 8) is open now through January 30, 2026. To schedule an informational planning call to discuss this opportunity and your application with the team, email niche-med_admin@aadmd.org.

An exciting event from AADMD, College of Medicine, University of Lagos Chapter -
IDD Healthcare & The SDGs: Voice of Inclusion || Spotlight Series: November 15, 10am GMT

As the world races toward 2030 where we hope to achieve the SDGs, persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs) in Nigeria and around the world, still face barriers to accessible, quality healthcare. This session brings together health professionals, advocates, and students to explore how inclusion can move from awareness to action — through education, policy, and practice.

Discover how the healthcare system and professionals can become a tool for equity, how the SDGs connect to IDD advocacy, and how we can all help shape a more inclusive, compassionate future.

As a seasoned Consultant Paediatrician and Head of the Emergency Department at LUTH, Dr. Osinaike has dedicated his career to ensuring that children — especially those facing life-threatening conditions — receive timely, compassionate, and equitable care. From stabilizing critically ill children to walking families through complex recovery journeys, his work has touched countless lives across Nigeria.

But Dr. Osinaike’s impact extends beyond the emergency room.
He is a passionate champion of SDG 4: Quality Education, believing that strong health systems begin with strong health professionals.

Through mentorship, clinical training, and capacity-building initiatives, he continues to empower emerging clinicians and strengthen Nigeria’s emergency care workforce.
