We are often overwhelmed by the road in front of us. It can seem long, have too many choices, and the unknown can make us feel afraid and out of control. That is why it is important, when you are starting a journey or feel a little lost, to take a moment and remember that the struggles you are facing have a purpose that will lead you to your goals. A simple mindfulness exercise, called the Examine of Consciousness, done 3 times a day for 5 minutes can help you overcome the bumpy road. The exercise goes like this:
1) Identify one thing since your last examine to give thanks for.
2) Identify on area in your life you want to work to improve during the time in between this and the next examine.
3) Ask for the strength to use the time in between the examine to better the world around you.
This exercise will help to keep you focused on your daily goals while also staying present in the current moments of life. So, take a few moments to enjoy this bumpy road as you get to your own happy ending.
