It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Norman A. Campbell, RPh, JD, PhD, on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Dr. Campbell was not only a remarkable pharmacist, leader, and teacher, but also a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend to so many in our Rhode Island pharmacy community.
Dr. Campbell’s dedication to the profession spanned decades. A Past President of RIPA (1975–76) and recipient of our 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award, he worked tirelessly to advance pharmacy, inspire future pharmacists, and share his knowledge through more than 100 publications.
His service and leadership reached far beyond Rhode Island. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy; Grand Regent of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity; a member of the AACP Board of Directors; a Judicial Board Member of the American Pharmacists Association; National Executive Councilor and Treasurer of Rho Chi; President of the American Society for Pharmacy Law; and Editor of The Rhode Island Pharmacist for four years. He also served as the founding President of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Foundation, Inc., and was honored as the American Pharmacists Association’s Honorary President in 2013–2014.
While his professional accomplishments were many, those who knew him will remember most his generosity, kindness, and passion for helping others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. His impact on our community will be felt for generations to come.
