beautiful reminder โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

We've all been there. We look in the mirror, we try on the pants, we look down at ourselves in the showerโ€”and judge.

We start to wish that we looked the way we did 5 or 10 years ago. Except we know that 5 or 10 years ago, we wished we looked the way we did 5 or 10 years before that! All of this begs the question: Where does the body love start?

How about, now. โค๏ธ

Our bodies are our home. Our bodies are our protectors. Our bodies are the powerhouses that have fueled our lives and maybe created new ones. They've channeled our traumas, they've led us on adventures, they know us and love us, even when we don't seem to love them back.

Year after year, we're gifted the privilege of living in these bodies and growing older inside them.

So instead of the self-judging (or self-hating), I invite you to join me in this:

Take a moment and look down at your body, at the breasts that may have comforted your babies through sleepless nights, at the legs and feet that have showed you the world, at the belly that nourishes you, at all of you.

And whisper, "Thank You."

Thank you gorgeous body for all you have done for me and continue to do. This is your moment to *choose* to love itโ€”ripples and all. There is no more perfect home for you to inhabit in this lifetime.

xx, Dr. A.

An estimated 19,000 pregnant women are part of the 1.1 million residents forced to flee from northern Gaza due to Israelโ€™s evacuation order on 13 October, with no safe place to give birth. Women are miscarrying pregnancies due to stress and shock, and the availability of medical facilities to birth safely in Gazaโ€™s already overwhelmed healthcare system is rapidly dwindling.

Just because the postpartum body is recovering and needs comfort, does NOT mean that typical comfort foods like creamy casseroles and cheesy lasagna are what a new mama needs.

Mothers need mothering too and tend to be forgotten as the focus is solely on the care of the baby.

And it can be tempting to think she'll really appreciate that slice of pizza or hearty cheeseburger after all of the work of birth.

Unfortunately, the foods we often turn to for comfort are exactly the opposite of what the unique physiology of the postpartum body needs to heal itself and balance hormones.

This is why our revolutionary Postpartum Nutrition Plan is gluten-free, dairy-free, and rich with healing nutrients found in whole foods, complete grains, animal protein, herbal tea, and warming broth.

It's time to learn more about offering mamas the support they're looking to you to provide!

We โค๏ธ Midwives and the essential care they provide!

Check out this series showing the relationships formed between Black midwives and their clients across Virginia! It was really powerful to not only see the pictures of care, but listen to the voices of the midwives.

"Take the time to listen to women, take that time to really individualize the care" - Midwife Marsha Jackson

In Virginia, Black women in recent years have been more than twice as likely as other mothers to have a death attributed to childbirth. Photographer Karen Kasmauski followed the work of Black midwives between January and April this year in Virginia. Her series of photographs traces the relationship
