Recognizing those who care for others with dedication and heart.

On January 22, Knollwood Life Plan Community members and team gathered in the Anderson Salon to celebrate the January recipient of the Ceca Foundation (Celebrating Caregivers) Award, which honors outstanding healthcare professionals within communities like Knollwood.

We are proud to recognize Chineyere Ohanyerenna from our Skilled Nursing Facility, who was nominated by a fellow team member for her commitment, compassion, and care. Moments like these reflect the respect and appreciation we hold for the people who support our community every day.

At Knollwood, caring for one another is not just a responsibility — it’s a shared value.

When families begin planning for the future, one of the most important considerations is continuity of care.

A Life Plan Community provides a complete continuum of care, supporting both physical and emotional needs as they change over time — all within one trusted community. This approach reduces disruption, eases uncertainty, and offers peace of mind for community members and their families.

At Knollwood, care is thoughtfully planned, so families can feel confident today and prepared for what’s ahead.

Community in action.

On December 20, Knollwood community members and team came together for The Big Wrap, a longstanding service initiative supporting individuals and families across our region. This year, 920 care packages were assembled and delivered to nine local shelters, each thoughtfully prepared with essential items and a handwritten note.

Many of the hats and greeting cards included were created throughout the year by Knollwood’s knit and crochet group — community members who meet weekly to share skills, stories, and time in service of others.

Moments like these reflect the values that define life at Knollwood: purpose, connection, and a deep commitment to community.

What does it really mean to live in a Life Plan Community?

Unlike traditional retirement communities, a Life Plan Community is designed to support you not just for today, but for the years ahead. It offers stability, foresight, and the confidence of knowing that your needs can be met as they change — all within one trusted community.

At Knollwood, planning ahead means peace of mind for community members and their families, and the ability to enjoy life today while being prepared for tomorrow.

Learning more often begins with a tour — and for those planning ahead, the waitlist is an important first step.

We are excited to welcome J. Hunter Moore as the next Chief Executive Officer of ADF and Life Plan Community effective January 13, 2026.

Hunter brings a strong commitment to service and community. His family’s history includes service in the Navy, Army, Marine Corps, and U.S. Foreign Service, a connection that aligns closely with Knollwood’s purpose and values.

An experienced senior living leader, Hunter has served as CEO and interim CEO of award-winning retirement communities and has led organizations through growth and transition. He believes leadership decisions should always reflect what one would want for their own family, a principle that guides his work and relationships.
We look forward to the leadership, continuity, and care Hunter will bring as Knollwood continues to move forward.

Community coming together with purpose.

On December 15, Knollwood Life Plan Community members and team participated in our first Knollwood Food Drive, marking the beginning of an ongoing effort to support individuals and families facing food insecurity in our surrounding community.

Thanks to the leadership and outreach of Gene Herman, Knollwood partnered with the Emory Beacon of Light, Inc.Food Pantry, allowing donated food items and gift cards to directly benefit those in need. Every contribution — large or small — played a role in creating meaningful impact.

This initiative reflects Knollwood’s commitment to service, connection, and being an engaged community beyond our campus.

A cherished Knollwood tradition. 🤍

Each December, we are honored to welcome The United States Army Band U.S. Army Chorus to Knollwood Life Plan Community for an annual holiday concert that brings our community together in the most meaningful way.

From beloved holiday carols to beautiful international selections, the Chorus filled our halls with music that perfectly captured the spirit of the season. Residents, families, and guests enjoyed an afternoon of song, followed by time together sharing cookies, punch, and conversation.

Moments like these remind us that community, connection, and joy are at the heart of life at Knollwood.

A month ago The Knollwood Community had the privilege and honor to host the DC Senior Resource Group DCSRG for an engaging discussion on “What Senior Living Professionals Need to Know About Solo Aging.”

These conversations are so important as we continue to learn how best to support older adults navigating aging independently — and it was wonderful to connect with fellow professionals dedicated to this work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a meaningful exchange.

Warm and welcoming, Knollwood opens its arms to new residents and new experiences.

Knollwood is a tight-knit community of people who have a shared history of serving our nation. The buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and beautiful. The location in Upper Chevy Chase is unbeatable—adjacent to Rock Creek Park and minutes to Washington DC’s best restaurants, theaters, museums, and the nation’s top health care.

Knollwood is firmly committed to pursuing and applying the most innovative service approaches available today—keeping you engaged whether you prefer a busier lifestyle or something a little more quiet. You’ll find cutting-edge technologies and programs not offered by other senior living communities. Should our independent living residents ever seek care in the future, Knollwood employs an award-winning nursing staff with skilled nursing and memory care and support services (which are dually certified by Medicaid and Medicare) all while maintaining the highest possible five-star federal rating.

And, because of our donor-supported Financial Assistance Fund—which is sustained by concerned residents, corporations, and foundations—Knollwood residents who fall into financial hardship will always be able to remain at the community.
