🚨 CMS Update Creates ACA Marketplace Enrollment Barriers 🚨
On August 29, CMS implemented a new policy requiring agents and brokers to reconnect their Federally-facilitated Marketplace (FFM) account credentials after just 30 minutes of inactivity.
Since implementation, NABIP members have reported:
✅ Applications timing out mid-enrollment, causing restarts and lost enrollments.
✅ Frequent reconnection prompts requiring brokers to re-enter CMS Enterprise Portal credentials multiple times throughout the day, even while actively assisting clients.
✅ Disruptions during client consultations, preventing brokers from completing applications when consumers need extra time to review options and compare plans.
🔒 While NABIP supports strong cybersecurity safeguards, this policy misapplies standards, creating unnecessary friction for brokers and consumers without improving security.
⚠️ It is critical that CMS engage directly with the broker community before implementing workflow changes. Brokers facilitate nearly 80% of ACA Marketplace enrollments, and when unnecessary barriers are introduced, consumers’ access to appropriate coverage is directly threatened.
👉 NABIP strongly urges CMS to revise this policy before Open Enrollment begins, when millions of Americans will rely on brokers for trusted guidance.
