There is a practice called sociometry which measures the ways that people relate to others. Within sociometry, there is an idea that some people have an abundance of social options, while others have very few. Those who have options are said to have "sociometric wealth" and those who have few are the "isolates". I have great respect for those who share their social abundance, and an infinite amount of compassion for those who are suffering in isolation. While I have enjoyed both ends of this continuum I think that the root of my healing practice and capacity has been the experience of the isolate, and a sincere desire to help others avoid the suffering that the role has caused within me.
