Kimberly and Erin Pryce and their sisters come to terms with their father’s Huntington’s disease and their own futures. Jee Bang, clinical director of the Johns Hopkins Huntingdon’s Disease Center of Excellence, describes the Pryce sisters as fearless and fierce in their HD advocacy. The admiration is mutual. “We love Dr. Bang,” Erin says. “She’s met our families, and she makes us feel comfortable. You’re never just a name on a folder with her.”

New research indicates that gene therapy treatments delivered via amniotic fluid injection could improve treatment outcomes of spinal muscular atrophy, with implications for other neurologic diseases with onset before or at birth. “There is significant interest in determining how we might utilize emerging genetic therapies in utero because there are many very severe diseases that start very, very early,” says Charlotte Sumner, professor of neurology, neuroscience and genetic medicine and co-author of a recent paper on the topic.
