Unfamiliar with Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is "yogic sleep", in which participants are lying down comfortably and guided into a state of deep relaxation in the body while the mind remains alert. While it is like meditation, Yoga Nidra is much more intentionally structured to guide participants through particular experiences. Yoga Nidra follows a path through the "Koshas", translated as "sheathes", or layers of existence. Beginning with awareness of the outermost Kosha, the physical body, the guidance leads down through the conscious realm and into lower layers, beyond intuition, with a final rest in bliss. The experience can be relaxing, and many people report sleeping very well the night after a Nidra experience.
There is mounting evidence that Yoga Nidra can reduce cognitive and physiological feelings of anxiety and stress.
