We are excited about this move and the opportunities our new location will bring to our dedicated team and patients. Our new space has more than doubled in size – allowing us to grow with our patient community.

We improve health for the whole family through medical care and emotional wellness.

Help Community of Hope vaccinate our community for COVID-19!

Community of Hope (COH) is seeking licensed medical professionals (e.g. MAs and RNs) as well as Nursing students to help vaccinate our DC neighbors. Volunteers will help with various steps in the vaccination process including administering shots, monitoring patients, and discussing medical histories and medications with patients. COH will provide training, PPE, and necessary supervision.

We are recruiting volunteers who can commit to a minimum of one (1) 4-hour shift per week for 6-8 weeks. Vaccinations take place at our Conway Health & Resource Center (Ward 8), Family Health and Birth Center (Ward 5), and Marie Reed Health Center (Ward 1) on Monday-Friday from 8:15am-4:30pm.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating in this opportunity, and our team will get back with you about the next steps. https://bit.ly/2SJOyh9
Congratulations Ebony Renee and Community of Hope Family Health and Birth Center!

“The first $20 million investment, made in partnership with The Harbor Bank of Maryland, City First Bank and Partners for the Common Good, will provide critical funds to Community of Hope for the purchase, renovation and expansion of the Family Health and Birth Center. The facility—which will annually provide more than 5,800 patients with medical, dental and behavioral health services—is the only medical establishment with a labor and delivery unit serving the Northeast and Southeast quadrants of D.C. and helps nearly 400 women per year with prenatal care.”
A huge congratulations to Community of Hope's Family Health and Birth Center! As part of JPMorgan's newly announced racial equity initiatives, the Washington, D.C. birth center will receive a $20 million investment for renovation and expansion. http://ow.ly/xhsX50DHPtB
We are so proud of our Director of Midwifery at Community of Hope’s Family Health and Birth Center, Ebony Marcelle, for her leadership and continued advocacy for the moms that we serve. As a former Duke-Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Program Fellow 18’, Ebony was featured in a Center for Health Worker Innovation article, “Working Towards Social Justice Through Midwifery and Black Maternal Health Advocacy.”

Marcelle explains, “Cultural congruency is an important factor in helping folks feel safe” She further states, “If a clinic doesn’t create spaces for people to be seen and doesn’t have providers that patients feel comfortable with, then it doesn’t matter that the clinic exists. To engage in care, considerations need to be made for patients to feel safe, to work on past traumas, to provide integrated behavioral health services. Having a baby and expanding the family is a huge milestone. Our midwifery model is designed to provide that space.”

Check out the work that Ebony Marcelle, CNM, MS, FACNM, of member center Family Health and Birth Center is doing to address structural racism as a public health issue and provide supportive care to those that need it most.

“Cultural congruency is an important factor in helping folks feel safe,” explains Marcelle. “If a clinic doesn’t create spaces for people to be seen and doesn’t have providers that patients feel comfortable with, then it doesn’t matter that the clinic exists. To engage in care, considerations need to be made for patients to feel safe, to work on past traumas, to provide integrated behavioral health services. Having a baby and expanding the family is a huge milestone. Our midwifery model is designed to provide that space.”
Our President and CEO Kelly Sweeney McShane is live from our Family Health and Birth Center with the Mayor’s office discussing lessons learned from last year’s Maternal and Infant Health Summit and what you can expect from this year’s summit.
“Prenatal yoga is a grounding way to really bring yourself back and focus on you and your baby. That is ultimately what is important when you go into labor.” Read about the benefits of prenatal yoga and class offerings at our Family Health and Birth Center bit.ly/2IpVlGe
Did you give birth in 2017? Did you receive your prenatal care at the Family Health and Birth Center? If so, you might be eligible to participate in a 1-hour interview with a researcher who is interested in learning about how women choose where to receive prenatal care and give birth. Your perspective and experience can help other women receive the care they need and value. All eligible women who complete the interview and a brief survey will receive a $20 gift card in appreciation for their time. For more information please email [email protected] or call (407)361-6267.

Community of Hope's Family Health and Birth Center (FHBC) pursues a collaborative model in order to meet the holistic needs of the families we serve.

A new birth center takes aim at women’s health disparities

Heroes in our midst!

There are 16 hospitals in Washington, D.C. But in Wards 5, 7 and 8, where a third of the city’s residents live — there are only three, and none of them offer a labor and delivery for mothers to have their children.

That’s where Community of Hope comes in!

Our Family Health and Birth Center offers the only free-standing birth center in the entire District. Although we’re always proud of the work we do in the community, it’s great to see our mission in action like this.

Thanks to JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Washington Post for sharing our story in such a beautiful way. Thank you to our leadership, medical staff, midwives, birth assistants, doulas, facilities, and everyone who comes together to care for new families and for all families through our comprehensive healthcare.

We encourage preventive care and regular check-ups. Preventative care includes services like regular check-ups, patient counseling, and health screenings.

These appointments are used to detect potential health issues early—when they can be treated most effectively or avoided altogether through lifestyle changes and maintenance.

Did you know... According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, routine cardiovascular exams save tens of thousands of lives every year.

Naloxone nasal spray can be found at Community of Hope health centers by request.

Naloxone, AKA Narcan, is used to temporarily reverse the effects of opioid medicines and does not affect people who are not taking opioids.

Carry Naloxone nasal spray with you in case of an opioid overdose; it could save someone’s life. And our city is experiencing too many opioid overdoses.

For more information on how to use Naloxone nasal sprays, go to: https://www.cdc.gov/stopoverdose/naloxone/

Available at Community of Hope’s three health locations, Conway Health and Resource Center, Marie Reed Health Center, and Family Health and Birth Center.

Community of Hope is full of PRIDE! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎

This PRIDE month and always, we honor the LGBTQI+ community. We recognize the need to be welcomed and affirmed – especially for people who’ve not always experienced this – which happens too often for the Black and Brown people and the LGBTQIA populations we serve.

That’s why everyone is welcomed at Community of Hope – today and every day of the year.

We are proud of everyone who chooses to live authentically themselves. In the face of any oppression and discrimination, we are here to listen, serve, and support.

We hope you’ll visit our booth this Sunday, June 12, at the Capital Pride Festival from 12pm to 7pm to say hello and snag some swag.

Heather Wise Reed proudly wears many hats—an early childhood educator, a Washington DC resident, Community of Hope board member and patient, and most importantly a mother.

Three years before becoming a Community of Hope board member, Heather was pregnant with her second child and searching for respectful and trustworthy prenatal care for her and her baby. An ‘everyday angel’ and fellow mother in her community told Heather that if she wanted a birthing plan that would meet her individual needs, then she should check out Community of Hope.
