The more I practice, the more attuned I become to the power of one’s ripple…allllll those ripples around us. The way even something as small and simple as audible waves of soft, steady breath next to us can help us find our way back to ourselves and some of that peace that’s always inside of us.

✨🧘🏽‍♀️First time leading an EIGHT-BLANKET PRACTICE!!! And to be fully accurate, first time leading an EIGHT-BLANKET, FOUR-BLOCK, TWO-BOLSTER, TWO-WEIGHTED-EYE-PILLOW, ONE CHAIR, ONE-STRAP PRACTICE!

Whew!!!

I 💖💖💖ed seeing students take ideas about how they might find more comfort in our Restorative Yoga poses and riff, innovate and discover. Very different vibe and practice than our typical Thursday night larger group class!

Soooo much deep self-listening and leaning into more ease and softening.

What I want to share from our exploration in this “Restorative Yoga Playground” is:

💖 Finding MORE comfort and ease in the body REALLY DOES help the brain and nervous system find more comfort and ease.

💖 What works for me and what I love may NOT be what’s best for YOUR body, pose or prop or practice-wise. It’s SOOO important to listen to yourself and follow the cues you’re receiving about where to lean in, turn away, turn over, and so on.

💖 My yoga isn’t about mastering a shape or forcing yourself. As I’ve learned yoga in more recent years (and wish I’d encountered about 20 years earlier when I first landed in vinyasa and ashtanga classes!), the REAL practice is partnering with YOUR BODY, mind and spirit and letting them guide you where they want to guide you today. That’s going to be different this year, this day, this hour. The practice is to compassionately partner with, listen to and respect the body, mind and spirit that’s with us right now. Even and especially if it’s not what we’re used to.

💖 We are deserving of comfort, rest and restoration. It took me a long time to give myself permission to find these—and even know how desperately I needed them. Listen to what helps you rediscover them, then LEAN IN. MORE!

Really loved our beautiful group .yoga.fallschurch and the individual paths we found and made today in our Playground. Grateful to get to hold spaces like this.

Happy Mother’s Day to allll the mamas—AND allllll those who share the beautiful feminine energy of nurturing and nourishment and care and connection and creativity with those around them.

Grateful to my own amazing mom and hers, both now passed on, and to my little fam that enabled me to become a mom.

Grateful for this sweet meal cooked with love this morning and remembering how to my mom, there was literally NO better gift than a homecooked meal, a homemade card, a handmade gift. (And who also gave me my genetic addiction to chocolate—see my fam’s acknowledgement of this on the top left of my plate! 🤣🍫)

In an insanely imbalanced world, may we continue to show up and share this *essential* healing, nourishing, rebalancing energy that is SO desperately needed. And may we continue to make time and space to fill our own cups…because we can’t pour from an empty vessel.

Was running later than I wanted to set up for Restorative & Reiki .dmv today because life has been LIFING hard this week… And got tears in my eyes when beautiful soul Paula — today’s Reiki assistant and one of my recent Reiki 1 grads — said she’d set up the room for me.

(Pic 2 is me misty eyed upon seeing her work! And in Pic 1, more mist and joy upon seeing she’s also wearing her RE:JOY Jenny Mayo Mind & Movement tee! 🥹💖)

I’m often the one tending to allllll these details to cultivate and hold and offer safe, nurturing space for others. And this small-but-not-small-at-all act made me feel so cared for and held.

It made me so grateful that I get to call this work — this holding we do for each other, this seeing of the weight we’re carrying rather than hiding it, these small ways we help each other lighten the load…even if it’s just for an hour.

I’d choose this community of bright lights over and over and over again.

Favorite moment of the week! Truly savoring the sun is its own holy, transformative meditation. (So is listening to birdsong.) Man, do I/we need this nourishment!

I hope you can find some time—even if it’s 3 minutes on your lunch break or between kiddo schleps—to fully soak in the sun today or this weekend. Let it warm you from the outside in and bring you something you need.

We are like flowers and also need sun and nourishment to bloom and thrive…and even just to survive!

Students in the process of healing, of rediscovering themselves, often ask me about the path, the pace, the steps, the destination, should’s and shouldn’t’s.

No one else can determine this but you.

One of the most invaluable things I learned on my healing path is that we don’t have to—nor can we possibly—know where it all leads. Or when.

But if we get really quiet and listen deeply to ourselves and to opportunities around us (something I know I WASN’T doing often enough before)…a breadcrumb almost always starts to appear. A ping in your gut that says, “Ooh, I’m curious about…” or “I want to try this!”

For me, the healing path was a million of these tiny breadcrumbs, followed one at a time.

So if you’re on a journey or just beginning, this is your gentle, compassionate nudge to let go of needing the full map and to instead tune into the next breadcrumb, or lantern, that calls to you.

Lean in. Pause. Repeat when it feels right.

There might be long pauses between weigh stations. That’s allllll part of the listening and healing and finding your way back to yourself.

That time you go back for your 30th high school reunion and introduce everyone to the you that you’ve been waiting your whole life to become!!!

And you get to play a sound bath for 40 classmates and fellow reunioners of different years. And some stay after and tell you how desperately they need tools for regulation and feeling better, too. And you exchange contact info because you KNOW what this feels like and do this work because more people need this stuff!

AND your amazing classmate remembers you asked about Acro Yoga earlier and that you’ve never done it, so before you can even THINK about whether floating your body on someone’s feet feels safe, you just start to soar, HAAA!!!!!
