Join us at Thursday night Satsang this week, September 4, at 6.45 pm for an interfaith dialogue on the intersections of love, dating & spirituality. 💫 We’ll be joined by Diana Brown & Premananda Vilasa.

Diana Brown is a Resident Minister at Georgetown University and works for Faith Matters, a media non-profit focusing on civic initiatives to address political polarization. She co-hosts The Soloists podcast, which explores maintaining a spiritual anchor amidst modern dating and discusses the implications of rising singleness for individuals and society. Prior to joining Faith Matters, she spent six years working at Georgetown’s multi-faith Campus Ministry, organizing religious services, holy day celebrations, and educational events across diverse religious communities. Her academic background is in the sociology of religion, with degrees from Brigham Young University and Georgetown. Throughout her time at Georgetown, she engaged deeply in fostering spiritual dialogue and supporting students through life’s big questions—an endeavor she particularly cherishes.

Premananda Vilasa Das grew up around New Delhi, India, and is a lifelong student of Yoga and Bhakti. He has spent over a decade training in the wisdom traditions of South Asia at ashrams, classrooms, and yoga studios in India and the US. He is a teacher of yoga philosophy, a museum curator, and a Kirtan artist. He draws direct inspiration from the contemporary Vaishnava teacher and author Garuda Das (Graham Schweig). Prema has a Ph.D. in History. He teaches yoga wisdom and Bhagavad Gita workshops at Bhakti Yoga DC. He is also a Resident Minister at Georgetown University.

DC does not feel like home right now. With armed soldiers walking the streets and my neighbors under threat from ICE, this country—supposed to stand for liberty and freedom—feels unrecognizable. What happened to the American ideals?

An energy of unrest and uncertainty prevails. A friend shared with me that her community has many Latino families. Each morning, small groups gather to walk neighborhood children to school, protecting them from ICE agents who hide out in alleys and parking lots. When I walk the streets around my business, the normal sight used to be the homeless begging, or those a little mentally estranged wandering about. But now it’s quiet. Where are our homeless? Since the “Big Beautiful Bill” and the military presence on our streets, I fear for those helpless dwellers.

BYDC 300HR: Energetics & Pranayama (50 Hours) with Gopi i
📆 Oct 24, 2025 - Dec 7, 2025

This module can be taken as a standalone immersion or as credit toward BYDC’s 300HR certification. RYS300 - 50 Hours.

At the heart of every yoga practice is the breath—our link between body, mind, and spirit. In this 50-hour immersion, you’ll explore the breath as a powerful tool for transformation, using ancient pranayama techniques to regulate your nervous system, move emotional energy, and awaken your inner vitality.

This training is both practical and profound. You’ll learn breathwork techniques that support digestion, clear emotional blockages, calm anxiety, and expand lung capacity. We’ll study the relationship between breath and asana, introduce kriyas, explore breath adaptations for different bodies, and harness the healing potential of mantra and sound.
Whether you’re a yoga teacher, therapist, energy healer, or dedicated practitioner, this module will deepen your relationship with the subtle body and offer tools to integrate breath-based practices into classes, workshops, and daily life.

Topics include:
* The science and soul of deep belly breathing
* Ujjayi for grounding and vagal tone
* Breath thresholds and the subtle art of conscious breath retention
* Cleansing techniques like Bhastrika and Kapalabhati
* Nervous system balancing: segmentation of inhale and exhale
* Energizing flows like Breath of Joy
* Nadi Shodhana and alternate nostril practices for inner harmony
* Cooling pranayama and kriyas for inflammation and emotion
* Mantra and breath: how sacred sound empowers breathwork
* Emotional release through sound, breath, and movement

This module is a doorway into the energetics of healing and a call to awaken the breath as your most loyal and immediate teacher.

Mark your calendars!
📆 September 16 @ 7 pm
📍 @ Bhakti Yoga DC

Join Graham M. Schweig, Distinguished Professor of Religion at Christopher Newport University, for a captivating talk on his latest work, The Yoga of Love (Oxford University Press, 2025). At the heart of this book is the Rāsa Līlā—a dramatic love poem and one of the most treasured episodes of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. Judged by both Indian and Western scholars as a literary masterpiece, the Rāsa Līlā is a soaring sacred love story, akin to India’s “Song of Songs.”

In The Yoga of Love, Schweig offers his own translation of this exquisite work, illuminating its historical context, poetic beauty, and spiritual depth. Through rich commentary, he explores themes such as the yoga of devotion, the tension between human love and divine love, and the transcendence of death through love. Drawing from the esoteric wisdom of the Chaitanya Vaishnava tradition, Schweig reveals the Rāsa Līlā’s vision of supreme love as a foundation for genuine religious pluralism.

Whether you are a student of yoga, a seeker of wisdom, or a lover of poetry, this talk promises to transport you into one of the world’s most sublime meditations on love.

Gopi is back from Europe with some fresh insights. She’ll be leading us in Satsang tonight, Thursday at 6.45 pm est.

Please join us for an evening of food, chanting, and community dialogue. 🙏🏽

All are welcome.💛

About Satsang ✨
Sat means truth in Sanskrit, and sanga means to come together. Satsang is our weekly gathering to discuss spiritual truths, based on Divinity, the Self and how to integrate greater conscious values into one’s everyday life.

Every Thursday at 6:45 p.m. we will have an open discussion on the philosophy of yoga, combining Sanskrit mantra recitation with ancient scriptural teachings. Allow the wisdom of the yogis and sages from the past to come alive and be made accessible to you, the urban seeker, explorer and practitioner.

See you tonight! 💛
