Dear DCNA Members,
As we move through another important season across the District of Columbia, I want to take a moment to personally thank each of you for the extraordinary work you continue to do every single day. Whether you are caring for patients at bedside, advocating in the community, mentoring new nurses, educating future healthcare leaders, or supporting public health initiatives, your dedication continues to shape the future of healthcare in our city.
This election season reminds us that nurses are not only caregivers — we are leaders, advocates, organizers, educators, and trusted voices within our communities. The decisions made across our city directly impact staffing, workplace safety, patient care, mental health services, public health funding, and the future of our profession. Your voice matters, and DCNA will continue fighting to ensure nurses remain at the table where those decisions are made.
I want to extend heartfelt appreciation to the incredible nurses we proudly represent across the District, including our members at Saint Elizabeths Hospital/DBH, Children’s National Hospital (CNH), Howard University Hospital (HUH), and COMP 13. Your commitment, resilience, and professionalism do not go unnoticed. Even during challenging moments, you continue showing up with compassion, strength, and excellence.
I am equally proud of the organizing and growth efforts taking place across the District. DCNA continues building power and expanding our voice through organizing efforts at George Washington University Hospital (GWUH), Children’s School Services (CSS), Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center, and additional healthcare settings where nurses are demanding respect, safe workplaces, and a stronger future for our profession.
As your President, my mission remains clear:
* To advocate fiercely for safe staffing, workplace safety, and respect for nurses
* To strengthen nurse engagement, leadership development, and professional growth
* To ensure transparency, accountability, and member-centered leadership
* To expand organizing efforts and protect collective bargaining rights
* To uplift the voice of every nurse across every specialty, facility, and community
* To create opportunities for education, empowerment, mentorship, and advocacy
DCNA’s strength comes from its members. Together, we are building a union and professional organization that is visible, engaged, solutions-focused, and prepared to lead the future of nursing in the District of Columbia.
I encourage each of you to stay involved, stay informed, and stay connected. Attend meetings, support fellow nurses, participate in advocacy efforts, and continue sharing your voices and experiences. Every conversation, every action, and every act of solidarity helps move our profession forward.
Most importantly, please remember this: your work matters. Your presence matters. Your advocacy matters. In moments when healthcare feels overwhelming, know that DCNA stands beside you and will continue fighting for the dignity, safety, and recognition nurses deserve.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our patients, our communities, and one another.
In solidarity and service,
Dr. Nancy Boyd
President
District of Columbia Nurses Association (DCNA)
