Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD), treatment resistant depression (TRD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
During TMS treatment, an electromagnetic coil is placed against the scalp of your head which delivers magnetic pulses that stimulate nerve cells in the region of your brain involved in mood control and depression. When used as an antidepressant therapy, TMS produces a clinical benefit without the side effects associated with standard oral medications.
So, what does this mean for someone with Major Depressive Disorder or Treatment Resistant Depression?
Hope.
For those who have struggled through depression and tried multiple therapies which failed to improve their depressive symptoms, TMS treatment can provide ease of depression symptoms and improve mood.
