Black Maternal Health Week is a reminder that these outcomes are not inevitable, they’re the result of gaps in care, access, and listening.

If you’re living with fibroids and thinking about pregnancy, working with a provider you trust before conceiving can help you better understand your risks and advocate for the care you deserve.

But the responsibility to change these disparities do not fall on patients’ shoulders alone. We need a healthcare system that takes Black women seriously, invests in research, and delivers equitable care consistently.

Happy !

Fibroid Friday is a result of a collaboration between and the Fibroid Foundation to bring new and emerging fibroid news and research to those who need to know about it first - women with fibroids and their doctors.

This week’s topics highlight the fact that fibroid knowledge and care are evolving, but awareness and access still need to catch up.

From new insights to different treatment options, we know more than we ever have before. The biggest question is: are women being informed of all of their options?

These aren’t just “bad period” symptoms, they’re red flags for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB) one of the most common signs of uterine fibroids.

The good news is that often times, HMB is treatable, but the first step is seeking help.

If you’re ready to learn more about HMB and how to talk to your doctor about it, visit our Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Hub, linked in our bio.

Some of the most important shifts in healthcare don’t start in labs, they start with people being heard.

In June 4th, we’re creating space for one of those conversations. If you care about where fibroid research is going, and who it’s centered around, you don’t want to miss this.

“Every woman is an expert on her own body” -Fibroid Foundation founder, Sateria Venable

We recently had the opportunity to hear and record ’s fibroid story, which is a true testament to the importance of seeking a 2nd opinion, and sometimes a 3rd and 4th.

When you’re being told what you must do with your own body, it’s time to find a physician that understands the importance of shared decision making.

Thank you, Karen, for sharing your story, and for reminding us who should be in control when making major decisions about our bodies.

Your fibroid journey is yours alone, and no two paths look the same.

The right treatment depends on your symptoms, goals, body, and what matters most to you. Many women utilize more than 1 of these treatments during their journey.

We hope to be able to expand these options as awareness and research around fibroids continues to expand, and we’ll always be here to help you navigate every option, question and step of the way.

There are too many things that simply don’t add up when it comes to fibroid care, and too many women are feeling it.

The COEQUaL team is working to better understand these experiences and turn them into meaningful change in fibroid care. If you’re open to sharing your perspective (ESPECIALLY if you’re 18-35 and living in Florida or Missouri), we’d love to hear from you. Tap the link in our bio to learn more.

We’ve learned over the last 13 years that one of the most powerful weapons we have in the fight against fibroids is our own voice.

Earlier this month, our founder & CEO, Sateria Venable, had the pleasure of speaking on a dynamic panel at the ’s Menopause & Women of Color Summit. When asked about the patient voice, she was able to pull from her own experiences to explain just how powerful it is for both ourselves and entire communities.

YOUR voice is powerful, and you are the expert. Don’t let anyone silence you, because you never know who will be impacted because you spoke up.

Several days every month, millions of women wake up and brace themselves. They check their sheets before they get out of bed, pack their bags like they’re prepping for an emergency, cancel plans, sit through pain and smile through meetings while managing something those around them rarely know about.

Your period shouldn’t cost you your peace of mind, your confidence, or your sense of self. And still, for millions of women, it does.

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding is a medical condition, not something to navigate alone and in silence.
