Critical health workforce initiatives including the Community Health Center Fund (CHCF), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), and Teaching Health Center GME Program collectively support more than 20,000 clinicians, help train the next generation of providers, and ensure access to care for 34 million patients nationwide. Yet their funding is increasingly uncertain.

ACU has joined our partners at Advocates for Community Health and the American Association of Teaching Health Centers in sending a letter to Congressional leaders urging swift, bipartisan action to fully fund and reauthorize these vital pillars of the nation’s healthcare safety net.

"Nearly 2 million community health center (CHC) patients are likely to lose their coverage [if ACA enhanced premium tax credits expire], with even greater losses likely in the coming years as patients struggle with high costs," according to a new analysis in The Commonwealth Fund.

And as already struggling CHCs provide even more uncompensated care, the cascading loss of revenue will further threaten the solvency of these lifeline institutions. Thanks to the Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health and Capital Link for this insightful blog.
