We are in a transitionary period right now in many ways, and with it, the Ides of March inches closer, bringing spring with it.

These waves of change can be enlightening, and also challenging for many of us. If you are feeling stress or a heavier heart than usual, Chinese medicine can help to balance the Qi, and with it, our bodies' and minds'. Sunny days are ahead!

We've taken a festive approach to the upcoming Chinese new year. And we are keeping everyone really warm with heated tables and blankets.

It will be the year of the Wood Snake. The snake is a wise creature, in Chinese lore. Not something to be afraid of!

More later :-)

Winter is not only a time of colds and cozy weather, but is also a time of gathering our resources. Now is the time to squirrel away what we have in and around us. With the winter solstice coming, the days will soon be getting longer again. Take some time to rest now, sleep more, find time for yourself and your spirit before the light begins to ask us to reawaken. And before the busyness of the holidays... ;)

Sunny days in the office...

Book an appointment for that sore throat, back pain, headache, anxiety, mobility issue, brain fog, etc.

This is the beauty of acupuncture -- versatility. We treat an expansive array of ailments affecting the body and the mind. And all while doing this, we consider the root cause, not just the presenting discomfort.

The Fall Mood: And what to do with it

Chinese medicine puts a lot of stock in living in tune with the seasons.

It's rained all week. The greying light has me casting my attention inward. I'm reminded that fall is the season to attend to myself in a quiet, inward way--a way that will become the well of vitality I'll draw on in darker months.

As the season associated with the lungs, fall encourages us to examine what we take in, and that we let go. A fresh breath in; an old one out.

As to taking in: Fall foods have an earthier, heavier quality, providing more calories and are longer-lasting. Last year I had orchard-picked apples that preserved themselves in my fridge for months. Impressive.

On the other hand, nature is gently letting go of its material splendor. We breathe to nature's slower tempo. Atmosphere comes to the fore--the quality of air, sky, clouds, light.

Emotionally, it's bittersweet. Something is missing, but what's the source of this sadness? In my case, summer as a child meant playmates and sun and beach and all things outside. Fall meant school and structure and have-tos and a lot more inside. It shifts to a more serious cast--no longer child's play, now adult in tone.

Productive counterweights to loss do exist. We can acknowledge all that we have. We can be grateful. Gratitude practices--I grant you--don't always do all they purport, but they are a decent place to start. And if that lands in flatly to you, try noting and expanding upon what you have in life that you can't touch, see or taste: Inspiration. Purpose. A sense of connection. Or the song of your soul.

When you discover, or rediscover, such hidden treasures, gather them into your heart. Use and enjoy them. And squirrel some away to nourish you in less fruitful weeks and seasons.

Feeling off? Come in for a few sessions, including a powerful lung/immune restoration series that will clean and recharge you on multiple levels. Book anytime through this link: http://www.acupuncturedc.com/book-now.

Beginning of fall is the beginning of the shorter days. Mimic the squirrels: prepare for winter. We do this with more sleep. Go to bed 10 to 15 minutes earlier . This fattens your energy savings account into the winter and will be an easy way to restore or guard your reserves of energy.

Our Story

I opened my clinic in 1999 to help those seeking to improve their health naturally, safely and, most important, effectively. I aim to get you well as quickly as possible--through tested, experienced, smart approaches to resolve pain, infertility, women’s issues and mood disorders. And now there’s more!

Just recently I have added a speciality to help with vision loss. So many people have no or very limited options to stopping the worsening of their vision -- no matter what it comes from. My father, a life-long reader, had a limit of three shots for his macular degeneration. Although the treatment may have slowed the disease, it did not stop it. He had to give up that treasured pleasure, and his quality of life was hampered by it in so many other ways.

I’ve travelled 8000 miles to learn from a master how to help people with impaired vision--whether it is macular degeneration, glaucoma, tunnel vision--or any kind of vision loss. This technique has proven to be 80% effective, and is documented.

My personal story was that years ago I had a skin pigmentation problem that I was hoping acupuncture might correct. The acupuncture didn’t help that. But boy, did it help a whole lot of other things! I felt so much calmer through my day and more alert, which was really necessary because I was enrolled in some intensive studies at the time (the early 1990s). My heavy periods normalized into events I didn’t have to pay much attention to (yay!). And my sleep became so refreshing.
