Would you like to be paid less for your work just because someone says your hard work costs too much, and they didn't tell you? What if that work was healing the sick or improving someone's health?

This is what physicians face when they are "downcoded" by insurers. When they code a visit at one level, an insurer can decide - without prior notice - that another similar code is more appropriate, especially if the reimbursement is less on the second code. Why? Because it saves them money but costs practices more.

This is not right and this is why MSDC is working to introduce downcoding reform in the DC Council. Working with the AMA, our goal is to prevent this from happening to your physician's practice. means physicians need to receive accurate, contracted reimbursement for patient care without insurers changing the rules because they can.
