Individuals in rural areas can face challenges accessing follow-up care or support from community organizations after leaving the hospital, though these services are critical.

A PCORI-funded patient-centered CER study compared standard hospital discharge support — a combination of care instructions to follow at home and help arranging transportation — with a new program that helped people plan their post-hospital discharge needs and manage doctors’ visits.

In the first 30 days after going home, those in the new program had fewer hospital readmissions than those who weren’t in the program. Read more: https://pcori.me/3JKPoFi

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a condition where the immune system attacks healthy tissue, leading to joint inflammation, damage and chronic pain.

A PCORI-funded randomized controlled trial compared the return of RA symptoms among adults in remission who stopped taking a type of medicine called a tumor necrosis factor inhibitor, or TNFi, with those who continued them.

Explore the Latest Evidence Update: Antiseptic Skin Solutions for Surgery

People undergoing surgery to repair a fracture are at risk of infection, which can lead to additional surgeries and other adverse outcomes. To help reduce this risk, clinicians often apply antiseptic skin solutions prior to surgery.
