HIV Vaccine Awareness Day (HVAD) recognizes the many volunteers, community members, health professionals, and scientists working together to develop a vaccine that can prevent HIV.

It's more important than ever to recognize the progress that has been made towards a vaccine, as well as to recommit to the work left to do to make this vaccine a reality.

Despite the decades of research and effort that has gone into creating a vaccine for HIV, in 2025, NIH terminated 191 HIV-specific grants, including terminating active clinical trials relating to HIV/AIDS.

It's vital that we continue to fight for funding and research to make an HIV vaccine possible.

May is S*x Ed for All Month! 27 states and the District of Columbia have laws requiring s*x education, but not all education is equal. SIECUS provides color-coded state grades that based on current laws and legislative activities, offering detailed insights into regional s*x education standards. How does your state measure up? Learn more: https://bit.ly/4ur8uld

Did you know...
💡 39 states and the District of Columbia require schools to emphasize or stress the importance of abstinence when s*x education or HIV/STI instruction is provided, over other options.
💡 14 states provide abstinence-only s*x education.
💡 16 states do not require s*x education or HIV/STI instruction to be any of the following, by law: age-appropriate, medically accurate, culturally responsive, or evidence-based/evidence-informed.

All young people, regardless of who they are or where they live, should have access to s*x education.

S*xual health and mental health go hand in hand🤝

In particular, stigma can have a negative impact on wellbeing, both mental and physical. It can lead to:
🧠 Lower self esteem
🧠 Anxiety and/or depression
🧠 Delayed diagnosis and care
🧠 Increased spread of STIs

So... what are some ways you can help reduce stigma?
✔️ Avoid using language like "I'm clean" to communicate your status.
✔️ Examine cultural beliefs that tie having s*x or getting an STI to morality.
✔️ Learn (and share!) the facts about how common STIs are.
✔️ Stop making STIs (especially herpes) the butt of jokes.
✔️ Browse our merch store, with items that help fight stigma and promote open conversations 😉 https://bit.ly/3Mxj75j

How has stigma impacted you? Comment and share to get the conversation going—another great way to fight stigma!

Don't miss out! Tomorrow (May 1) is the final day to apply for the Spring into Action: Ready, Test, Go! donation program.

Due to the overwhelming interest, Diagnostics Direct has graciously decided to more than double their original contribution of tests! 🙌

A total of 5,500 Syphilis Health Check™ rapid tests will now be made available to support syphilis testing at sites that need it most.

This is a great opportunity for programs to expand access to rapid testing, pilot new approaches, or strengthen existing services without cost barriers. We look forward to getting these tests into the field where they can make an immediate impact.
