What a strong kickoff this week for the Move with the Mayor® 2026 Mental Health and Physical Activity Challenge.

👏 Huge thanks to two returning participants — Supervisor Chris Barnett of Orion, MI, and Mayor Keith Sydnor of Laurel, MD — for sharing how the challenge showed up in their communities last year.

🏋️ In Orion, the challenge helped activate a wide range of free community fitness opportunities — from yoga in the park and SilverSneakers to cardio drumming — while also introducing more residents to a newly converted recreation space.

🚶 In Laurel, the challenge built on existing partnerships and programming, bringing residents together through activities, like Pilates, yoga, a 3-mile park walk, and a mental health forum.

Both communities used the challenge to expand participation, strengthen local partnerships, and create more opportunities for residents to connect through physical activity.

📅 This year's monthlong challenge begins May 1, during Mental Health Awareness Month.

That’s why Orion Township, Michigan, Supervisor Chris Barnett and Dr. Barry Franklin are raising the alarm about high LDL cholesterol — a hidden driver of heart attacks and strokes.

Knowing your numbers gives you the power to act before it becomes an emergency.

It has no symptoms but can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

That’s why LDL Cholesterol Can’t Wait.

Residents in Louisville, Mississippi, showed up and showed out for a Move with the Mayor® event hosted in partnership with The Studio Barre and Wellness at Ivy Park on Feb. 7. 🎉

The community took on a one-of-a-kind fitness triathlon:

🏃‍♀️ Starting with a 15-minute walk or run
🩰 Moving into a 30-minute barre blast, and

Kids were welcome, mats were rolling, and the energy was contagious from start to finish. ✨

Thank you to Mayor Will Hill, the City of Louisville, The Studio Barre and Wellness, and all the local sponsors who made this event free and accessible to the whole Louisville community. ❤️🤍💙

Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure.

Many don’t know it’s out of control until real damage is done.

The CDC Foundation Hypertension Bites webinar on Feb. 25 walks through a new campaign designed to close that gap. This webinar is free to attend and open to all health-focused organizations.
