is a lifeline for so many of our clients--and when that lifeline is threatened, we speak up. Recent federal cuts and potential cuts locally risk further straining an already fragile system.

The stakes remain high for millions across the country, and we are closely monitoring the potential ripple effects within our own community.

We know the road ahead won't be easy.

But, at McClendon Center, we remain rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to high-quality, affirming mental health care—and we'll keep pushing forward to make that a reality.

July marks Bebe Moore Campbell Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.

At McClendon Center, we’ve spent 40+ years walking alongside DC’s BIPOC communities—providing compassionate, culturally responsive mental health care to those who need it most.

This month, we honor her legacy of advocacy and the ongoing fight for equity in mental health. Thank you to everyone who stands with us in this work.

Let’s keep the conversation going—and keep showing up for one another.

Today, we honor Juneteenth National Independence Day, commemorating June 19, 1865—the day when the last enslaved people in the U.S. were informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of our nation’s history—and the continued fight for justice, equity, and dignity. At McClendon Center, we pause to reflect, learn, and recommit ourselves to a future where healing and freedom belong to all.

It's time to check in on the men in your life.

Each June, Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month calls attention to a critical issue: the challenges faced by men, and the stigma that too often prevents them from seeking support.

At McClendon Center, we believe it’s time to talk more openly—and act more urgently.

Here’s why this matters:
šŸ’” Men account for nearly 80% of su***de deaths in the U.S., dying by su***de almost 4x more often than women.

šŸ˜” Over 6 million men experience depression every year—but many go undiagnosed and untreated.

🤐 Social pressures and outdated expectations discourage vulnerability, leaving men isolated and silent in their struggles.

These realities are not inevitable. By creating a culture where it’s safe to talk about mental health—and by offering accessible, affirming care—we can change lives.

Let’s break the stigma.
