As the first hospital on the East Coast to offer CyberKnife technology, our team is among the world’s most experienced in CyberKnife technology, having treated more than 2,400 patients with prostate cancer and performed more than 35,000 treatments in total. Unlike traditional radiation that’s given in 40 sessions over eight to nine weeks, CyberKnife can treat prostate cancer in just five visits.

On the latest episode of “MedStar Health DocTalk,” our own Dr. Jonathan Lischalk, radiation oncologist, discusses CyberKnife radiation therapy for treating prostate cancer and the advantages of CyberKnife over conventional radiation. Check out the comments to learn more.

Why does Katherine Farquhar give back? Because of the seamless, compassionate care she received at MedStar Health following a thyroid cancer diagnosis.

Katherine received care locally while taking advantage of the power and strength of MedStar Health's regional services. Her care plan included surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, follow-up care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and ongoing support at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center from Dr. Maureen Passaro.

Katherine is now thriving! She gives back through the Women's Board, Gift Shop, and the Olney Farmers & Artists Market. Her story is a powerful reminder of how compassionate care can inspire lifelong support. 💛💙

Diane's cancer treatment journey was complex—and long. But thanks to urologist Dr. Keith Kowalczyk, she's extremely grateful for her care experience at MedStar Health. ❤️ 💙

Not only did Dr. Kowalczyk stay by her side, but he also included her in the decision-making process, making Diane feel more comfortable about her treatment plan.

Diane wants to ensure patients like her continue receiving the same expert care she did, so she made a gift to MedStar Health to help with oncology research. Her gift will support cancer treatment, from strategic immunotherapy to ground-breaking robotic surgery.

Diane hopes her story will inspire others to give and support oncology care. Read Diane's inspiring story here: http://ms.spr.ly/6182SNVFQ

What is hyperbaric medicine oxygen therapy (HBOT), and how can it help hard-to-heal wounds?

HBOT is frequently used for patients whose wounds do not respond to first-line treatment. Patients are exposed to 100 percent oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which helps with increased blood flow and wound healing. HBOT is also used to treat other diagnoses, including delayed radiation injuries involving soft tissue and bone, skin flaps or grafts with compromised healing, and more.

Dr. Kelly Johnson-Arbor, medical director of Hyperbaric Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, also oversees the HBOT program at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. She's Washington, D.C.'s only board-certified undersea and hyperbaric medicine physician.
